Carpenter
PURPOSE:
A Commercial Construction Carpenter/Laborer plays a vital role in the construction industry, contributing to the creation of various commercial structures such as office buildings, retail spaces, warehouses, and more. This position involves a combination of skilled carpentry work and general labor tasks to ensure the successful completion of construction projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Carpentry Work:
- Perform precision carpentry tasks, including framing, installing doors and windows, cabinetry, and
finishing work.
- Accurately measure, cut, and shape materials, such as wood, metal, and plastic, using appropriate
tools.
- Construct and repair wooden structures, such as formwork, scaffolding, and building frameworks.
- Ensure compliance with blueprints, specifications, and building codes.
2. General Labor:
- Assist in the setup and teardown of construction sites, including the assembly and disassembly of
scaffolding and safety barriers.
- Load and unload construction materials and tools.
- Assist with concrete pouring and reinforcement, as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
3. Tool Operation:
- Operate various hand and power tools, such as saws, drills, nail guns, and measuring instruments,
safely and efficiently.
- Perform routine maintenance on tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working condition.
4. Safety Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to minimize workplace accidents and hazards.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, including hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, and
ear protection.
- Identify and report potential safety issues to supervisors.
5. Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with other construction professionals, including carpenters, contractors, and project
managers, to achieve project goals.
- Follow instructions from supervisors and assist in coordinating tasks with team members.
6. Quality Assurance:
- Maintain high-quality work standards to ensure the integrity and durability of the constructed
structures.
- Address any defects or issues promptly and effectively.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Proficiency in using carpentry tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of construction materials and methods.
- Understanding of safety procedures and protocols.
- Physical strength and stamina to lift and move heavy materials.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to work outdoors and in various weather conditions.
- OSHA certification (preferred but not required).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in commercial construction carpentry and general labor.
