GENERAL SUMMARY:
The mission of Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education is to create opportunity for under-resourced youth of the Greater Philadelphia Region to prosper in life. The intended impact is that participating youth will become Snider student-athletes with age-appropriate social-emotional strengths and skills to succeed and contribute as students, employees and community members.
The Career Success Coordinator creates pathways for Snider students and alumni to explore their interests, develop their skills, gain real-world experience, and launch meaningful careers. Through engaging career development programming, strategic partnerships with individuals and employers, and personalized guidance, the Coordinator connects students and alumni with the resources, experiences, and relationships they need to pursue fulfilling employment in their chosen career field.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and deliver Snider’s career development programming for high school and postsecondary students by designing engaging experiences that encourage students to explore a wide range of career pathways and fields through opportunities such as job-site visits, professional presentations, career panels, and other career-connected experiences.
- Incorporate opportunities for students to identify their personal values, interests, strengths, and sense of purpose, helping them make informed decisions as they explore education and career possibilities.
- Develop and strengthen partnerships with employers and community organizations to create meaningful opportunities for Snider students and alumni, including special events, networking, internships, job shadowing, and other career-connected experiences.
- Lead and oversee the Student Leadership Council by managing the annual participant selection process, planning and facilitating meetings, promoting meaningful service opportunities, and creating opportunities for students to provide feedback that informs Snider’s programs and initiatives.
- Support students and alumni in building the skills and confidence needed to succeed in the workplace by facilitating career-oriented workshops and networking opportunities. This includes coordinating opportunities for 12th grade and postsecondary students to build and receive feedback on their resumes, along with providing opportunities for students and alumni to practice their interview skills.
- Promote and coordinate the selection processes for two employment opportunities: J.Wood Platt Caddie Program and the Snider Alumni Coach Program.
- Promote a wide range of career and education pathways by connecting students and alumni with trade schools, certificate programs, apprenticeships, workforce development programs, and other non-traditional education and training opportunities that can lead to meaningful employment.
- Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with students, alumni, parents and guardians, potential partners, and other key stakeholders to support student success and strengthen Snider’s career development efforts.
- Supervise and support part-time Career Advisors, while coordinating key administrative functions related to payroll, finance, risk management, and human resources to ensure effective and efficient program operations.
- Travel within the Greater Philadelphia/South Jersey area is required. Flexible work schedule and ability to occasionally work nights and weekends is required.
- Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required; education, counseling, psychology, social work, career development, or a related field preferred.
- Prior experience working with youth aged 13 to 24 is preferred.
- Knowledge of career development practices and resources is required; experience with local employment services or workforce development programs is a plus.
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with diverse groups, including students, parents/guardians, coworkers, partner organizations, and community members.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a particular strength in interpersonal communication.
- Strong computer literacy and ability to work with and interpret data; proficiency with Microsoft Office required. Experience with Salesforce or another customer relationship management (CRM) platform is a plus.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Previous experience supervising staff is preferred.
- Successful applicants must be able to pass the PA Child Abuse Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Background Check, and FBI Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
- General knowledge of ice hockey can be helpful, but it is not required.

INTELLECTUAL AND SOCIAL DEMANDS:
While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is continuously asked to multi-task under time limits. The position requires constant attention to precise details and specified standards including: following simple to complex (more than three steps) instructions, and concentration which frequently extends beyond 30 minutes at a time.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee will regularly operate a computer and other office devices such telephones, copy machines, fax machines, etc. Employee will occasionally move about inside office space to access storage areas, cabinets, and office machinery. Local driving in support of work-related projects is necessary. Position will require occasional pushing, pulling, lifting and/or moving.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The essential responsibilities of this position are primarily performed indoors, mainly in an office setting but including regular visits to ice hockey rinks, schools, community centers, and special event sites (indoor/outdoor in the weather conditions prevalent at the time). The noise level in these work environments can range from moderate to loud during events/programs, and is minimal during non-event/program times.
SCHEDULE:
Most work is completed during standard weekday hours. Occasional night and/or weekend duties in the Greater Philadelphia area are required.
