CAMPUS SAFETY & SECURITY OFFICER

Carter G. Woodson School is a non-profit charter school in Winston-Salem, N.C.  We serve 500+ students from grades K – 12 each year and support over 80+ staff. We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Campus Safety & Security Officer to join our team.  The desired candidate will have a passion for education and a willingness to ensure a safe and secure learning environment while maintaining compliance with Safe Schools of North Carolina standards.  This role fosters a culture of safety, inclusivity, and restorative justice aligned with the school’s core values.  The preferred candidate will communicate in a professional and positive manner at all times with parents, staff, students, school officials, and any other individual they may come in contact with.

Job Type:

Full-time; on campus.

Job Responsibilities:

• Conduct regular patrols of the school premises to ensure the security of students, staff, and visitors.
• Monitor surveillance cameras and alarm systems to detect any suspicious activity or potential security breaches.
• Control access to the school buildings and grounds, ensuring only authorized individuals enter.
• Verify the identity of visitors and issue visitor passes as necessary.
• Respond promptly to security incidents, disturbances, or emergencies within the school.
• Implement emergency procedures and protocols, such as lockdowns or evacuations, in coordination with school administrators and local authorities.
• Enforce school policies and regulations related to safety and security.
• Address behavioral issues and conflicts among students or staff in a professional and calm manner.
• Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and other staff members to maintain a secure and orderly school environment.
• Maintain accurate records of security incidents, daily activities, and any unusual occurrences.
• Prepare detailed incident reports and submit them to appropriate school personnel.
• Participate in training sessions related to security procedures, emergency response, and conflict resolution.
• Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as needed or requested by the supervisor to support the department and school’s objectives.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or general educations degree (GED) required.
• Ability to pass a background check.
• Working knowledge of security techniques.
• Must be reliable, proficient, and conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times.

Compensation:

Commensurate with experience.
