Calibration Technician - Travel Required
About JM Test Systems
JM Test Systems provides calibration, test and measurement equipment, and technical services across multiple business segments and service locations. We help customers in industrial, energy, manufacturing, and other demanding environments keep critical instruments accurate, compliant, and ready to perform.
Job Summary — The Opportunity
Our customers count on their test and measurement equipment to be accurate, because their safety, quality, and compliance depend on it. We're looking for an experienced Calibration Lab Technician to help our Mobile team deliver that accuracy every day.
In this role, you will calibrate, repair, and certify instruments across electrical, dimensional, physical, mechanical, and optical disciplines, working in our lab and supporting onsite work at customer locations. You'll bring hands-on metrology experience, troubleshoot and repair instruments, take on complex measurements, and help train less experienced technicians.
You'll thrive here if you have a solid technical foundation in calibration, enjoy solving measurement problems, and want to keep growing your expertise with a team that takes quality seriously.
Key Responsibilities & Outcomes
· Calibrate and certify with confidence. Assess instrument condition, perform calibrations to established procedures, and verify each instrument meets performance standards before it returns to the customer.
· Solve measurement problems. Analyze data to identify out-of-tolerance conditions and trends, and correct them through adjustments, component replacement, or correction factors.
· Troubleshoot and repair. Diagnose instrument failures and perform repairs to return equipment to full working condition and within specification.
· Deliver accurate documentation. Record calibration data and prepare complete, accurate reports and certificates on time.
· Support onsite work. Travel to customer sites to perform calibration work in the field, providing the same quality and service you deliver in the lab.
· Share your expertise. Train less experienced technicians, recommend standards to lab management, and help improve how the lab works.
· Keep the lab running smoothly. Maintain organized work and staging areas, order supplies, and transport equipment safely.
What You Bring
· Required: High school diploma or GED.
· Required: Hands-on metrology experience calibrating electronic, physical, dimensional, or mechanical equipment.
· Required: Knowledge of measurement science, calibration principles, laboratory standards, and related math, physics, and electronics.
· Required: Ability to correctly use test instruments and standards, interpret calibration procedures, and work independently.
· Required: Good communication skills and a professional, customer-focused approach.
· Required: Ability to travel for onsite work with a valid driver's license, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in lab, plant, and outdoor settings in varying conditions.
· Preferred: Associate's degree, technical school, or military training in measurement science, calibration, or electronics.
Why JM Test Systems?
You'll join a lab that maintains ISO 17025 accreditation, work alongside experienced technicians and managers, and gain exposure across multiple calibration disciplines. Your experience will be valued, and you'll have a clear path to keep growing your skills and your career with us.
