POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the guidance and supervision of the Member Relations Director, the Building Manager is responsible for monitoring the safety and security of YMCA facility and ensuring members and guests receive exceptional customer service.  The incumbent conducts walk-throughs and patrols the facility to preserve order and protect property.  The incumbent may assist in membership duties and respond to member questions and concerns, including giving all facility tours when scheduled. 

Currently hiring for every other Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide a high level of service to members, potential members, guests, children, and program participants.
  2. Follow all YMCA policy and procedures including Child Abuse Prevention.
  3. Responsible for handling discipline situations concerning both youth and adults. Teach and warn persons of rule infractions (including youth hours) and evict violators from the building as necessary.
  4. Provide a personal role model to members, guests and other YMCA staff regarding customer service, positive attitude and behaviors, high work ethic, and cheerfulness.
  5. At all times demonstrate the YMCA core values (Caring, Honesty, RespectResponsibility, and Faith).
  6. You are expected to find replacements for your own shifts when needed. If you cannot find a sub, you must then work that shift you were scheduled for. No shift can go uncovered, and the manager of the department is not considered a “subâ€.  If you commit to sub a shift for a co-worker and then cannot work that shift, you must then find your own replacement.
  7. Responsible for general operation of the YMCA facility, including giving tours, taking the lead in discussing problems with members, simple maintenance repairs (if needed), and assisting the Front Desk, when needed.
  8. Know the schedule of programs. Stay updated on communication by reading the Building Manager binder at the beginning of every shift.
  9. Ability to show a sense of urgency when needed and be responsible for decisions regarding application of first aid, calling 911, completing incident/injury reports, and following through with parents, guardians, or family.
  10. A rotation of the entire building must be done every 30 minutes (including parking lot during warmer months). This includes monitoring all bathrooms and locker rooms and signing off on the security sheets.
  11. Must be knowledgeable and have ability to carry out all emergency procedures and action plans.
  12. Must be stationed in a visible area when not moving throughout the building checking all doors to ensure they are locked, inspecting food court, gyms, stairwells, lower levels, etc.
  13. Respond to pages in a timely fashion.
  14. Responsible for checking to ensure emergency doors are locked.
  15. Recognize lack of quality customer service, and respond to it immediately.
  16. Follow opening and closing procedures (when applicable) and document as appropriate.
  17. Responsible for picking up trash, keeping locker rooms tidy, and keeping first aid supplies stocked in kits.
  18. Serve as the point of contact with outside authorities for emergency or disturbances to operations and safety.
  19. Other duties as assigned by the Member Relations Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  2. Preferred education in Law Enforcement, Corrections or Special Education.
  3. One to two years related experience preferred.
  4. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications must be completed within 60 days of hire (YMCA provided).
  5. Requires the ability to recognize and handle a variety of situations as they arise, including being comfortable or willing to handle stressful and/or confrontational situations with youth and adults.
  6. Previous customer service experience.
  7. Demonstrate interpersonal communication and problem solving skills.
  8. Willingness to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
  9. Knowledge of YMCA programs and services.
  10. Never been convicted of any child abuse including sexual abuse

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position.  Perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing for extended periods of time, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time. The ability to calmly and effectively react in an emergency situation.
