Sierra Nevada Communications is looking for a highly motivated individual to be a part of our technician team. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and have a thirst for learning, the ability to adapt quickly, and the desire for a long-term commitment to grow with the company. On-the-job training for all positions is provided.


Position Summary

The Broadband Infrastructure Technician works both inside and outside residential and commercial properties, as well as along roadways, with the responsibility of installation, repair, maintenance, construction, and setup of Broadband Internet, TV, and VoIP services.  This position requires highly motivated individuals with excellent communication, a desire to learn, and the ability to demonstrate their skills. This Technician must have the desire to work in various environments, service situations, and all weather conditions. Our technicians must also have the ability to troubleshoot various technical situations efficiently, solve an array of cabling and internet problems, pay attention to detail, and have exceptional customer service skills.  


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Establishes voice and data networks by running, pulling, terminating, splicing cables, and installing telecommunications equipment.
  • Connecting fiber/coax/cat5e drops
  • ONT termination
  • Trenching, installing, and burying conduit
  • Maintains network by troubleshooting and repairing outages, testing network backup, and restoration procedures
  • Documents network by labeling and routing equipment and cables and recording configuration diagrams and specifications
  • Installation and configuration of internet gateways, routers, modems, and other devices
  • Configuration of customer-owned computers, printers, TVs, and other devices, including programming remote controls and completing channel scans
  • Communicates regularly to customers and other department employees
  • Educates customers on their Internet, TV, and VoIP services
  • Complete wireless and other site surveys for residential and commercial leads
  • Records and documents work completed to ensure proper accounting of company labor, expenses, and assets
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications
  • Verifies service by testing connectivity

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work flexible hours with the understanding that workdays can be in excess of normal hours and some weekend and holiday work will be required
  • Ability to be on-call concerning the workload and emergencies
  • Ability to visually perceive differences in wire cable colors
  • Ability to complete on-the-job and/or classroom training to remain competitive in the Information of Things (IOT) industry
  • Ability to demonstrate proper use of hand tools
  • Ability to work with testing equipment and document results
  • Understanding and knowledge of WiFi
  • Ability to use basic computer tools (change IP, PING, traceroute, speed test)
  • Must be able to demonstrate proper safety practices
  • Must be able to regularly work and drive in inclement weather conditions, including snow
  • Must be able to occasionally work in high precarious places, i.e. booms and ladders, as well as small confined spaces like attics and crawl spaces
  • Ability to learn quickly and on the job

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum 1-2 years of internet installation or telecommunications experience preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of general construction practices is preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain a valid California Driver's License and driving record that meets the company's minimum insurance requirements
  • Ability to pass a background check, drug/alcohol, and physical screening
