Surveyor – Remote (ON, BC, AB)

About the Role

R.A. Malatest & Associates Ltd. is seeking Surveyors to support national research projects through high-quality data collection. This fully remote position is ideal for candidates seeking part-time or full-time work, flexible hours, and experience in social research—all from the comfort of home.

Surveyors are responsible for administering telephone interviews, gathering high-quality data, and ensuring culturally aware and linguistically accurate engagement with respondents. You will join a supportive team of supervisors, project coordinators, and fellow data collection staff.

This position is offered on a limited-term contract (3 months) with flexible scheduling.  Candidates must reside in British Columbia, Alberta or Ontario.

Key Responsibilities
  • Call respondents in English to collect information for social research projects.
  • Achieve targeted survey completions for assigned studies.
  • Maintain accurate, secure, and confidential participant data following Malatest standards.
  • Conduct interviews using CATI (Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing) or other electronic systems.
  • Apply cultural awareness and sensitivity in engaging diverse respondent groups.
  • Identify and communicate any language-based or cultural considerations that may impact participation.
  • Support project teams by providing insights into language-specific outreach or content clarity.
  • Perform data entry, data validation, and documentation as needed.
  • Attend required training on privacy, security, cultural competence, and survey tools.
Qualifications
  • Completion of high school required; post-secondary education in social sciences, psychology, communication, information management, or related fields is an asset.
  • Fluency in English (oral and written) is required.
  • Experience in customer service, call centres, interpretation/translation, or survey research is preferred.
  • Minimum typing speed of 30 words per minute with high accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to engage respondents enthusiastically.
  • Familiarity with multi-line telephones and computer-assisted interviewing systems.
  • Comfort navigating computer systems and proficiency with MS Office and Windows OS.
  • Ability to work independently, manage shifting priorities, and meet project targets.
  • High level of integrity and ability to manage confidential and/or sensitive information.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada and able to obtain a criminal record check.
  • Must reside in Ontario, British Columbia, or Alberta.
Required Home Office Setup
  • Personal Windows computer (desktop or laptop).
  • High-speed internet service (minimum 40 Mbps recommended).
  • Headset with noise-cancelling microphone (earbuds with built-in microphone acceptable).
  • Private, quiet home workspace free from interruptions.
Working Conditions
  • Fast-paced, deadline-driven environment supporting multiple projects.
  • Remote work only; all duties performed online using Malatest systems.
  • Standard Survey House operating hours: 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM (local time).
  • Shifts range from 3–8 hours, with a minimum of 20 hours/week.
  • Some evening or weekend shifts may be required.
  • On-call scheduling may occur depending on language-specific project needs.
