Automotive Technician (Mechanic)
ü Is responsible for conducting routine service on vehicles and for diagnosing and completing repairs on customer vehicles.
Ø Performing routine automotive maintenance tasks, which could include but are not limited to oil changes, tire rotations and regular maintenance, battery installations and electrical work, transmission and engine work/flushes, air conditioning recharges and service, vehicle alignments, suspension, and brakes, etc.
ü Is capable of correctly performing complicated repair sequences according to established procedures.
Ø Conducting diagnostic procedures to identify the cause of automotive issues and make effective and accurate recommendations, prioritizing safety concerns.
Ø Road-tests customer vehicles to confirm problems and, after service, to ensure that repairs have been completed.
Ø Conducting necessary repairs and testing vehicles before handing them back to customers
Ø Inspecting vehicles to ensure they meet provincial requirements for safety and emissions.
ü Is the most up-to-date person in the shop about the technical aspects of vehicles and maintains a knowledge of current industry best practices.
ü Is a good communicator, immediately telling the Service Consultant if a part needs to be ordered and asking for clarification if a work order is not clear or seems incorrect.
Ø Works closely with the Shop Owner and with the Service Consultant.
Ø Updates Service consultant on additional repairs or changes to the service plan.
Ø Checks parts for fit, finish and compatibility and advises on any changes. Return unused parts, cores, and warranty items to respective return areas in clean condition, in the supplier box undamaged and appropriate for return.
ü Maintaining paperwork and customer records & writes on the work order the repairs completed, the parts required, & future required service or repairs. Documents any other vehicle problems that were noted during servicing.
ü Knows the shop area and the availability of special tools that might be needed. Services and maintains tools and shop equipment including tire machines and hoists to ensure safety, proper operation, and longevity.
ü Ensures the careful driving and operation of customer vehicles, leaving them in better condition than they were received. Maintains a clean and safe workplace, bay, tools, and machines, as well as general shop (incudes garbage cans, waste oil, rags, used tires neatly stacked etc.).
