Reporting to the Senior Strategic Buyer, the Strategic Buyer is responsible for planning, organizing, leading, and monitoring all activities related to managing calls for tenders and tracking ongoing contractual commitments.

He/she will work from the Montreal office and from home, on a 5-2 work schedule.  He/she may be required to travel to the exploration site.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan strategic sourcing needs with requisitioners and immediate supervisor;

• Develop and implement strategies to achieve cost reduction targets;

• Gather the necessary paperwork for tender calls with departments;

• Take responsibility for the tenders assigned to you by your supervisor;

• Identify new sources of supply to reduce risks;

• Prequalify bidders;

• Organize and attend meetings with departments and suppliers;

• Negotiate with bidders;

• Work closely with departments to conduct analyses;

• Prepare Powerpoint presentations;

• Draft recommendations for management;

• Manage the contract signature process;

• Ensure that the register of contractual obligations in force is kept up-to-date;

• Follow all norms, regulations, standards, codes and laws in force at Gold Fields;

• Keep work place organized, clean and safe;

• Treating stakeholders with respect;

• At the request of his immediate supervisor, could be asked to issue purchase orders;

• Perform any other tasks related to the strategic buyer position that are relevant to the success of the project.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Post-secondary diploma in administration or combination of experience and education may be considered;

• 5 years experience in a similar position;

• Excellent understanding of the mining industry;

• A valid class 5 driver's license;

• Bilingual (French and English). Will have to work with English-speaking suppliers.  French is the first language at work. The strategic buyer will have to create some contracts in English.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

• Ability to work with IT systems;

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Access);

• Knowledge of SAP software (an asset);

• Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat Pro.

BASIC SKILLS

• Excellent teamwork skills and ability to develop harmonious relationships with colleagues and suppliers;

• Great ability to plan and organize work and manage priorities;

• Good written and verbal communication skills;

• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;

• Professional ethics;

• Good stress management and self-control.
