Reporting to the Purchasing Superintendent, the Buyer will be responsible for maintaining good relations with suppliers.  He is responsible for optimizing existing systems, enabling rigorous follow-up.  He will work telecommuting or at the Montreal office on a 5-2 schedule, with sporadic site visits. Transportation, lodging and meals provided during site visits.


Duties and responsibilities

  • Respect procurement processes and procedures;
  • Purchase goods, equipment and services;
  • Meet suppliers;
  • Negotiate with suppliers (in French and English);
  • Perform total cost of ownership analyses;
  • Draw up various business case scenarios with the departments involved in purchasing;
  • Define different purchasing strategies;
  • Identify new sources of supply;
  • Create key performance indicators;
  • Optimize transport management in collaboration with warehouse supervision;
  • Create catalog items;
  • Create Powerpoint presentations;
  • Participate in inventory optimization;
  • Conduct audits (internal and external);
  • Settle invoice problems, in collaboration with accounts payable and claimants;
  • Participate in tender processes;
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects;
  • Follow-up on open purchase orders;
  •  Respect health and safety and environmental policies and rules at all times;
  •  Carry out any other tasks related to the buyer position that are relevant to the success of the project.

  • Excellent teamwork skills and ability to develop harmonious relationships with colleagues and suppliers;
  • Good organizational, planning and priority management skills;
  • Good written and verbal communication skills;
  • Negotiation and political acumen ;
  • Analytical skills and rigor
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Good stress management and self-control.

              

Technical skills

  • Easy to evolve with IT systems;
  • Knowledge of SAP (an asset) ;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint);
  • Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat Pro.


Qualifications required

  • (DEC) in administration or combination of experience and education could be considered ;
  • (5) years' experience in a similar position;
  • In-depth knowledge of incoterms ;
  • Knowledge of the mining industry (an asset);
  • Valid class 5 driver's license;
  • Bilingual (French and English). Will have to work with English-speaking suppliers.
