 The Sales Manager is responsible for achieving growth and reaching sales targets by successfully managing the sales team.  This person is responsible for designing and implementing a strategic sales plan that expands the company’s customer base and ensures its strong presence.  The Sales Manager assists the Flagship Store Director in creating a diverse and inclusive culture for both store team and customers alike. This role will involve building strong relationships both internally and externally as well as being a dynamic spokesperson for the FAO Schwarz brand.  

As the Sales Manager, you will enjoy building strong teams, developing individuals, leading a strong sales culture where our team is constantly learning new ways to meet and exceed sales targets.  You will enjoy being creative in designing unique flagship experiences, in collaboration with store leaders, to ensure that revenue is being generated in innovative ways.  This position will have 2 direct reports – Sales Leads that will be responsible for owning different areas of the selling floor.  You will also co-lead our Toy Ambassadors, our dynamic sales associates, with the Senior Sales Manager.  Your team will ensure excellence in all aspects of pricing, presentation, planogram integrity, vendor partner relationships, and achieving sales targets in each area.  The Sales Manager will work closely with store leadership and associates, ensuring that the team at every level achieves their individual, vendor partner shop, and total store sales goals.  In this role, you will need to be proactive in objectives setting while providing coaching and performance monitoring of Sales Leads and Toy Ambassadors.  You and the Senior Sales Manager will be responsible for communicating wins, opportunities, and plans to drive consistent growth with the Flagship Store Director as well as the entire leadership team.  You will also be a strong advocate in helping us achieve our community goals – through volunteerism, philanthropy, and inviting organizations into our store to play and enjoy learning through our experiences.  You will actively support our marketing, events, and social media goals.

 The Sales Manager will report to the Senior Sales Manager and will work a rotating, full-time schedule including days, nights, and rotating weekends.

 

What You’ll Do: 

This role has 4 key areas of responsibility:

Store Operations

Lead a strong sales culture for the store and otherwise support the Flagship Store Director and Senior Sales Manager in all facets of running the store.  The Sales Manager will also act as Manager on Duty multiple times a week, moving throughout the store to interact with the team and customers, ensuring that the entire business is running productively and professionally.

 

Customer Experience

Ensure a world-class omnichannel shopping experience for all customers.  Our physical and eCommerce stores are the public face of the FAO Schwarz brand, where everyone can directly experience all that is possible with FAO Schwarz.  Establish the highest level of customer service by setting expectations of excellence in the execution of store standards, product demonstrations, personal shopping, marketing and events, community partnerships, exclusive flagship experiences, and profound knowledge of our products and the FAO Schwarz brand.

 

Sales

Actively drive omnichannel sales in all areas of the business, working with store leaders and our FAO.COM leaders to build and grow effective teams that are maximizing results.  Ensure that everyone on the team is consistently delivering a world-class experience that maximizes our sales potential through entertaining product demonstrations, engaging customer interactions, purposeful personal shopping, hands-free shopping options, and innovative experiences.  Collaborate with store leaders and the Flagship Store Director to initiate and lead business change efforts to achieve maximum desired revenue and payroll results.

 

Vendor Partner Relationships

Be the in-store representative responsible for connecting with all product vendors in collaboration with our Corporate Merchandising partners.  Ensure that you are the subject matter expert on all product categories, both vendor and FAO Schwarz products, throughout their lifecycle.  Know the sales performance of all SKUs in each vendor shop, through reporting and customer feedback, and drive the process to constantly evolve our product line to achieve the highest revenue, gross margin, average transaction value, conversion rate, and deliver a world-class customer experience.  Be the expert on vendor-specific revenue targets and work closely with your Sales Leads and Toy Ambassadors to achieve revenue targets in all departments.  Work closely with the Operations Managers and our 3rd Party Logistics company to ensure that our store and stockroom are filled to capacity with products to support customer demand.  Proactively communicate all wins and opportunities with the store leadership and Flagship Store Director on a weekly basis, with a plan to course-correct as needed.

 

What We’ll Expect You to Have: 

  • A sense of whimsy, a nostalgia for toys, and a fondness for the FAO Schwarz brand
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, innovation, time management, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience designing and implementing a strategic business plan that expands the company’s customer base and ensures its strong presence
  • The ability to identify emerging markets and market shifts while being fully aware of the new product and competition status
  • Retail Management experience with high attention to detail
  • Strong computer skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams a plus
  • Knowledge of a Retail Store P&L
  • Knowledge of and experience with retail POS Systems and operations
  • Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in business, retail management or related and equivalent experience
  • At least 4+ years of strong retail leadership experience in a high profile, big-box, or multi-unit setting
  • Capable of lifting up to 25 pounds, bending and twisting and standing for long periods of time
  • Proven ability to lead and remain positive, resilient, adaptable, and succeed in a fast-paced, public-facing retail environment
