Kitchen Assistant
JOB SUMMARY:
Assists Kitchen Manager with distribution of all meals and snacks in accordance with the food service and nutrition requirements of the Department of Early Care and Learning, the USDA Childcare Food Program guidelines and Health Department standards. Ensures all utensils and dishes are clean, sanitized and stored according to guidelines.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Ensures all food safety standards, health department and CACFP guidelines are adhered to daily
(i.e., temperature, storage, sanitation, etc.)
· Assists with preparing food on trays and bowls as directed Kitchen Manager or Kitchen Assistant Manager.
· Distributes meals and snacks to classrooms as directed.
· Ensures all Health Department standards are met daily (i.e., temperature, storage, sanitation, etc.)
· Ensures that all open containers and packages have tight fitting lids or covers and are labeled with contents and date, unless in original container / package.
· Ensures food service equipment and preparation areas are kept clean and free of dust, dirt, food particles and grease deposits. Ensures that cafeteria is clean. Sweep and mop floors in these areas as scheduled.
· Serves food as needed for lunch and snack with serving sizes dependent upon the age of the child / adult.
· Ensures that all kitchen and dish towels are laundered each day.
· Replenishes hand soap, paper towels and toilet tissue in hall bathroom.
· Assists Kitchen Manager or Kitchen Assistant Manager with putting away deliveries and supplies.
· Notifies supervisor of foods and supplies before depletion.
· Seeks and/ or requests additional duties whenever time permits.
· Performs all other duties as requested by supervisor.
WORKING EXPECTATIONS:
· Staff will always exercise professionalism in the presence of participants, visitors, and other staff.
· Staff will ensure that all activities and conversations are always geared toward what is appropriate.
· To ensure quality of services provided, staff are expected to receive a rating of 20 (meets expectation) or higher on all performance reviews. Scoring under 20 will result in the staff member being placed on a 1-3 month probation until the level of quality is improved or termination may result.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· High School Diploma or GED
· Meets or exceeds DECAL’s minimum yearly training requirements
· Possess current First Aid and CPR certification.
· Good Interpersonal skills with children and adults required.
· Interpret and carry out written or oral instructions.
