About the Opportunity
The Clinical Specialist provides screening, intake, assessments and referral services for children and youth in care with Northern programs. Utilizing knowledge and experience in assessment, best practices, and evidence –based interventions; this position is responsible for providing focused and creative interventions to meet the needs of the youth and families serviced by The Link: Youth and Family Supports.
Duties are varied, following established service plan, procedures and policies with some judgement required to determine the most appropriate of a limited number of alternatives. Non-routine or unusual situations are referred to the supervisor. Actions could result in inadequate services that could have a negative impact on The Link, to employees, customers, youth and communities. Misconduct could result in major loss of time or resources, could cause embarrassment within the organization and have a negative impact on the organization, to customers, communities and/or its public image.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- As a member of this collaborative, multidisciplinary team, responds to referrals from the Clinical Resource table, completes assessments and develops therapeutic goals designed to support individual youth and their caregivers.
- Work within a Trauma-based, Attachment and Transitional support framework.
- Facilitates the collaboration among all systems involved with youth in the assessment, delivery and coordination of services designed to meet the youth’s goals and objectives; and participates in multi- systems meetings as necessary.
- Provides on-going and as-needed consultation regarding youth treatment, behavior management and problem-solving.
- Knows policies and treatment philosophy of The Link: Youth and Family Supports.
- Monitors treatment plans
- Documents treatment and client program reporting, Clinical Specialist is required to keep appropriate documentation of all clinical activities.
- Completes screening and risk assessments and safety plans for all children and youth referred to The Link Healing Homes; completes a comprehensive assessment for each child/youth and makes recommendations for therapeutic interventions and clinical supports.
- Provides clinical consultation and topic specific training as needed to assist staff and caregivers in developing greater awareness, skills or strategies consistent with a trauma-informed approach to healing and recovery.
- Consults with The Link centralized intake and assessment team routinely to facilitate the best standard of care for our children and youth.
- Represents The Link: Youth and family supporting multi-system meetings as necessary.
- Maintains appropriate documentation of all clinical activities.
- Reviews client care plan documentation, in consultation with the Centralized intake and Assessment Manager, to ensure compliance and The Link: youth and Family Supports standards and provides constructive feedback where required.
Other duties as related to the position and as reasonably assigned by the supervisor, or as circumstances dictate, all within the context of The Link’s Mission, Vision, and Guiding Principles as well as a strong and progressive customer service and community service orientation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary degree in Human services or Social Work.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical setting or social work experience
- Ability to work independently and with a team.
- Ability to perform a comprehensive treatment assessment.

- Valid First Aid/CPR Level C certificate
