RSL is seeking an experienced
Communications Specialist who will have significant responsibility for executing
the company’s internal communication strategy and approach and assist on an
as-needed basis with external communications, including suppliers, the media
and others. Under strategic direction
from the Director, Business Development and Communications, the Communications
Specialist will collaborate with business leaders at RSL to manage the
execution of internal communications strategy for projects and initiatives,
from needs assessment, planning, content development to distribution. In
addition, the Communications Specialist will work as needed on external
communications, including assisting with the execution of efforts to better
cultivate RSL’s external audiences.
The role will be based at RSL's
headquarters in South Burnaby.
- With direction from the Director,
Business Development and Communications, execute an
internal communications strategy focusing on building trust and connection with
RSL’s internal audience.
- Drive engagement through an innovative approach and tools, as
well as high-quality storytelling that keeps all teams informed about what’s
happening at RSL, focusing on key priorities and highlighting RSL's purpose,
leadership principles and core values.
- Aid with developing and delivering corporate materials for the
Owners, President and the Executive team, including reports, speeches, and
presentations for existing and potential external stakeholders and partners.
- Will champion and put into place best practices in internal and
external communications that support organization-wide change initiatives.
- Create and leverage new forms of internal communications,
especially evolving technology platforms. Additionally, manage RSL’s internal
communications channels, including intranet, internal monitors, ad hoc internal
events, as well as regular communications from a variety of key leaders, in
support of RSL’s strategy.
- In coordination with the People and Culture Team, the
Communications Specialist will be responsible for delivering various programs
and training that effectively describe, inform, engage, and promote the
organization and its strategies to internal audiences and connect employees to
RSL’s vision and core values.
- Generate creative, memorable content with a thoughtful and
varied approach, appropriate for different audiences. Bring these ideas and
stories to the Marketing and eCommerce team to integrate into external
communications, as appropriate.
- Create and manage an internal communications calendar to best
support the understanding and adoption of key programs and activities that
align with RSL’s external communication calendar and key messages.
- Assess current and emerging environments to develop plans and advise
various business leaders to position RSL effectively with internal and external
- Work with Marketing, eCommerce and People and Culture teams to
measure and analyze corporate and leader communications programs and
initiatives' effectiveness and suggest new ideas and approaches based on

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Bachelor's degree with 3-5 years of progressive experience,
ideally including experience as an Internal Communications Specialist or
- Proven successful experience with change management, social
responsibility programs, and employee communications.
- Outstanding collaborative skills with proven success influencing
internal groups, including strategic corporate perspective to internal project
teams, and the Executive team.
- Excellent verbal and outstanding written communication skills,
including excellent presentation, facilitation, influence, and listening
skills, with strong expertise in communicating scientific information.
- Significant understanding of and experience with communications
technology and best practices, including the effective use of intranet, digital
news and social platforms.
- History of planning, crafting and relaying powerful messages and
creating engaging material in a values-driven culture.
- Ability to produce high-quality, mixed-media communication
products that can be delivered through digital and other channels.
- A history of setting and achieving goals and accomplishing tasks
with aggressive timelines.
- An individual with high integrity, creativity, and a roll-up
your sleeves work ethic.
