Notre Dame Preparatory School (NDP), an independent, Catholic school for girls in grades 6-12 in Towson, MD, is seeking an Accounting Manager.  Founded in 1873, the school currently enrolls approximately 800-day students and has approximately 170 full- and part-time employees. The right candidate will enjoy working in a mission-driven, religious educational setting. Employment is full-time for 12 months, beginning immediately.

 Role Focus:

The role of the Accounting Manager is an integral part of the Business Office, responsible for assisting in the preparation of financial reports such as statements of activities, statements of financial position, and analyses of historical and projected income and expenses, in addition to other special reports that may be needed. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, the Accounting Manager supervises purchasing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing operations.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 ·         Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget and work with administrators and department chairs regarding budget performance   

·         In conjunction with the Director of Finance, oversee all accounts, ledgers and reporting systems ensuring compliance with GAAP standards, regulatory requirements, and rules for non-profits.

·         Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; communicate accounting policies to employees and ensure compliance with such policies

·         Ensure accurate and appropriate coding and/or approval of all revenue, expenditure, and journal transactions to their appropriate accounts, including unrestricted, restricted funds.

·         Review monthly bank reconciliations and ensure all cash transactions are accurately recorded.

·         Prepare, post, and reconcile all quarterly accounting activity and related accounting entries, and prepare all associated spreadsheets and analyses.

·         Provide support in the hiring, training, and review of accounting department staff.

·         Provide support for the Director of Finance at all Board-related and committee meetings.

 OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare all periodic surveys and compliance reports for various school industry organizations (e.g. NAIS, NBOA, etc.), as well as other internal and external information requests for financial data.
  • Review forms, including but not limited to, annual 1099 forms, charitable organization registration form, property tax returns and Forms 940 and 941.
  • Resolve any reporting issues with the IRS and other Federal and State regulatory agencies.
  • Analyze ancillary programs for profitability and effectiveness.

 Education, Experience, and Competencies:

The ideal candidate will be a CPA (or working towards the CPA) with a bachelor’s degree in accounting with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in non-profit accounting, including managerial or supervisory experience with a proven record of mentoring and developing staff, ideally in an independent school or higher education setting.  This position requires strong organization, written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.  Strong proficiency with Excel, Office and other computerized accounting systems is required (experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge and Raiser’s Edge highly beneficial).  Highest regard for confidentiality and exemplary ethical standards is necessary, as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects under the pressure of deadlines.

·         Written and Verbal Communications Skills - Exhibits strong interpersonal skills and maintains open communication channels with numerous constituencies of the school, including peers, administrators, parents, and vendors.

·         Problem Solving Skills - Considers a broad range of internal and external factors when solving problems. Grasps complexities and perceives relationships among different problems or issues.
