POSITION:           Credit Risk Specialist/Underwriter

 

SUMMARY:

Oversees and manages exposures to credit risks in the lending portfolio to ensure the overall success of the Bank.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Identifies, monitors, and reports on areas of concentration within lending that represent inordinate risk and loss exposure.
  • Monitors the ongoing credit quality of loan portfolios. 
  • Prepares accurate and timely credit risk reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
  • Works with senior management to produce ad-hoc credit risk related reports and charts.
  • Reviews the delinquent and charged off loan portfolio, analyzes trends in loan portfolios and potential areas of concern.
  • Maintains adequate documentation of reports produced and sources of data to meet the requirements of auditors and examiners.
  • Responsible for compliance with all Federal regulations including Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)

·         Gathering and reviewing various types of financial statements and tax returns

·         Reviewing, assessing, and analyzing loan packages for completeness and accuracy

·         Ensuring loan request are accurate

·         Providing assistance to loan officers and assistants

·         Gathering additional supporting credit documents for new and existing borrowers

·         Respond to loan officers and assistants’ inquiries

·         Perform internal reviews independently on loan relationships of $1MM or greater in aggregate exposure with minimal to normal complexity of credit structure.

·         Spread and analyze commercial financial statements and tax returns of existing loan customers as well as personal financial statements and tax returns of related guarantors. 

·         Compile and input loan and financial data obtained from the core system and file documents into individual loan review forms. 

·         Identify policy exceptions in the individual reports.

·         Assess and provide factors relevant to the credit grade determination of the loan(s).

·         Recommend credit grades based on creditworthiness of borrower and provide supporting reasons. 

·         Communicate with loan officers concerning problem assets.

  • Reviews pertinent financial and credit data and evaluates credit quality within delegated authority limits. Approves, sets conditions and denies applications submitted for approval outside standard loan decision matrix and matrix limits. Determines appropriate counteroffer and/or pre-approves customers for additional loan products.
  • Ensures that all exceptions made are fully documented in loan notes to adequately justify any loan decisions made that may fall outside of policy or procedure guidelines.
  • Monitors the LOS Underwriting queues to ensure service levels are achieved.
  • Maintains customer and other sensitive information with confidentiality.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with other department management personnel to ensure that risks at all levels are minimal.

Education:

  • Equivalent to a college degree (BS or BA in a relevant field).

 

Experience and Other Requirements:

  • Three years to five years of similar or related experience in financial institution risk management or related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of regulatory issues, financial and credit risk management, and internal controls in a financial institution setting.
  • Excellent analytical ability and ability to conduct thorough research, interpret and understand laws and regulations, and provide workable recommendations and solutions to problems.
  • Must possess the ability to handle multiple, conflicting deadlines.
  • Must possess the ability to interact positively with all levels of the organization, including Management, the Board, other Volunteers, coworkers, and the public to promote a team effort and maintain a positive attitude even under extreme pressure.
  • Excellent oral, written, telephone, organizational and interpersonal communication skills required.

 

Computer Skills:

·         Extensive use of personal PC required with proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

·         Experience using Cognos, Excel Pivot Tables, LoanVantage, Xperience, and SQL databases

·         Must be proficient using e-mail and the internet.
