About Working on a “Floatel 

LandSea will be providing workforce catering and accommodation services for guests onboard the MV Isabelle, a 650-passenger “Floatel”. The Floatel will be permanently docked in Squamish, B.C. and is estimated to operate for up to three years.  All crew members onboard the MV Isabelle must have the minimum marine safety certifications required by Transport Canada for the specific job.  


Individuals who do not have the required marine safety certifications (see details below) will be required to attend a 5 – 10-day marine safety program. LandSea covers the costs of training, however, crew who do not complete minimum employment contracts are responsible for repaying part of all the training costs.   


At work, the crew are provided with accommodation, full meals, WIFI and can access health/gym facilities they can access when off work. We provide partial uniforms and help with the travel/reservations as needed to and from locations. Excellent Health and Wellness benefits are offered after three months. 


About the Opportunity 

The Baker is responsible for preparing baked goods, such as pastries, pies, cookies, squares, cakes and other bakery itemsThe Baker reports to the Chef or Relief Chef and is responsible for preparing dough, mixing batters, creating new recipes or closely following existing ones, receiving special orders from guests, adhering to all food quality standards and workplace safety protocols, and ensuring timely completion of baked products. 


Job Responsibilities 

Ability to create new baked goods and pastries 

Ensuring every product meets the expectations of the client and reflects well on the standards of LandSea 

Ensures workstations are restocked and cleaned as needed 

Maintains records of the baking inventory and production levels 

Inspects all baked items for quality assurance 

Ability to work under strict deadlines and meet client expectations 

Knowledge of general baking principles and understanding of a wide variety of recipes 

Excellent knowledge of safety, health rules, and quality controls 

Excellent understanding of imperial systems and metrics of measurements 

Strong verbal and written communication skills to assist in the day-to-day operations 

Supervise, manage, train, mentor and direct other kitchen staff 

Ensure all daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks are completed 

Assist with unloading grocery truck 

All other duties as may be assigned 

 

Qualifications 

Minimum of 2-3 years' experience as Baker preferably in a remote environment 

Post secondary culinary education considered an asset 

Red Seal Baker certification an asset 

Proven organizational, time management and interpersonal skills (including reading, writing and speaking English) in an industrial kitchen environment 

Food Safety certification in the province of British Columbia for the duration of employment is required 

Advanced (level 2) Food Safety certification is preferred 

First Aid Certification is preferred 

Ability to work within a multicultural diverse environment 

Excellent written and verbal English 

Proven experience with inventory and grocery ordering 

 

Physical Requirements 

Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch for long periods of time  

Repeat the same movements including fast, repetitive movements of fingers, hands, and wrists  

Use muscles to lift, push, pull or carry objects up to 50 lbs  

Use hands to handle objects and tools  

 

Certifications and other requirements  

Domestic Vessel Safety Certificate  

Passenger Safety Management Certificate 

Advanced First Aid an asset 

Ability to clear a drug and alcohol test prior to hiring and potential random tests throughout employment with prior notice; 

Serving it Right Certification an asset
