Accounting Specialist

Elora, Ontario Full-time $27.63-$31.55/hour

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Accounting Specialist is responsible for providing professional and reliable service while supporting the team in achieving JEC’s key objectives with customers and suppliers. This role requires a thorough understanding of customer and supplier requirements, as well as JEC’s Business Management System (BMS) policies and processes, ensuring alignment with company standards for Safety, Morale, Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Environment. The position demands adaptability, proactive communication, and a commitment to continuous improvement, with performance measured against departmental business plan targets. It also offers opportunities for professional growth and preparation for future roles within the organization.

 

SUMMARY


Compiles and maintains accounts payable records by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

       •      Matches/Enters invoices to receivers in AP system accurately
Verifies receipt, price, account and authorization against PO or cheque request
Researches discrepancies with Production Planning, Purchasing and MRO departments
Oversee daily mail - incoming and outgoing and printing of emailed invoices
Reconciles accounts payable sub-ledger to general ledger
Helps with preparation of cheque runs and wires payments
Reconciles Suppliers Statements to accounts payable sub-ledger
Assists with Corporate external auditors in yearend financial audit and J-SOX audit
Other Duties may be assigned


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Certification in accounting from a recognized college or university; or 2-3 years of related accounting experience; or equivalent combination of education and experienceLANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Accounting software; Excel Spreadsheet software and Microsoft Word Processing software.
