Cook (Part-time)



The Cook will be in charge of serving our residents through the Inspiration Ministries' kitchens. This includes general cleaning of kitchen and dining hall, preparing and serving nutritious meals, stocking and interacting with residents and visitors. The Cook will report to the Food Service Manager.

Average Number of Hours: -29 hours

Years of Experience: 2 years of food service (preferred)

Education: High School Diploma or GED


  • Able to work nights and weekends.
  • Able to work in different kitchens and menus.
  • Valid Driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Food Service Certification (Preferred)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. 

Major Duties (75% to 80% of Job)

1.       Management (in the absence of Food Service Assistant and Food Services Manager)

·         Train workers in food preparation, and in service, sanitation, and safety procedures.

·         Supervise and participate in kitchen and dining area cleaning activities.

·         Work with visiting groups to plan food and dining event needs.

·         Control inventories of food, equipment, and report shortages to designated personnel.

·         Specify food portions and courses, production and time sequences, and workstation and equipment arrangements.

·         Resolve customer complaints regarding food service.

·         Forecast staff, equipment, and supply requirements, based on a master menu.

·         Inspect supplies, equipment, and work areas to ensure efficient service and conformance to standards.

·         Assign duties, responsibilities, and workstations to employees in accordance with work requirements.

·         Analyze operational problems, such as theft and waste, and establish procedures to alleviate these problems.

·         Judge the qualities of food, services, or people.

·         Guide, direct, and motivate subordinates.

·         Make decisions and solving problems.

·         Evaluate information to determine compliance with standards.

2.       Food Service and Head Chef

·         Monitor sanitation practices to ensure that employees follow standards and regulations.

·         Check the quality of raw or cooked food products to ensure that standards are met.

·         Instruct cooks or other workers in the preparation, cooking, garnishing, or presentation of food.

·         Supervise or coordinate activities of cooks or workers engaged in food preparation.

·         Inspect supplies, equipment, or work areas to ensure conformance to established standards.

·         Order or requisition food or other supplies needed to ensure efficient operation.

·         Determine production schedules and staff requirements necessary to ensure timely delivery of services.

·         Check the quantity and quality of received products.

·         Determine how food should be presented and create decorative food displays.

·         Plan, direct, or supervise the food preparation or cooking activities of multiple kitchens within Inspiration Ministries and Inspiration Retreat Center.

·         Prepare and cook foods of all types, either on a regular basis or for special guests or functions.

·         Monitor use of government food commodities to ensure that proper procedures are followed.

2.       Cleaning

·         Wipe tables or seats with dampened cloths or replace dirty tablecloths.

·         Set tables with clean linens, condiments, or other supplies (if required).

·         Locate items for and serve Residents and visitors.

·         Scrape and stack dirty dishes and carry dishes and other tableware to kitchens for cleaning.

·         Perform serving, cleaning, or stocking duties in serving areas to facilitate service to Residents and visitors.

·         Carry food, dishes, trays, or silverware from kitchens or supply departments to serving counters.

·         Clean up spilled food or drink or broken dishes and remove empty bottles and trash.

·         Serve food to Residents and visitors when assistance is required or needed.

·         Serve ice water, coffee, rolls, or butter to Residents and visitors (if required).

·         Maintain adequate supplies of items such as clean linens, silverware, glassware, dishes, or trays.

·         Clean and polish counters, shelves, walls, furniture, or equipment in food service areas or other areas of the dining halls.

·         Mop or vacuum floors when needed.

·         Fill beverage or ice dispensers.

·         Stock cabinets or serving areas with condiments and refill condiment containers.

·         Interact with the Residents and visitors in a professional and kind way. 

·         Maintain a safe dining hall.

Minor Duties (20% to 25% of Job):


  • Assist with special events. 
  • Participate in and provide input to one of IM committees or development groups.
  • Attend and participate in mandatory meetings.
