The MLT is responsible for maintaining skills in manual and automated testing of moderate and high complexity in all sections of the laboratory, which include chemistry, hematology and coag, urinalysis, microbiology, blood bank, and immunology.  The MLT must work efficiently; is responsible for following QC and QA protocols; is responsible for computer skills, proficiency in using the Laboratory Information System, and for abiding by all regulatory requirements including CAP, TJC, CMS, and OIG legal lab compliance.  The MLT’s work is subject to secondary review by an MT, and may have additional delegated tasks at any time.   The MLTT will participate in proficiency testing.

WORK HOURS:  Employee will be provided a routine 8 or 12 hour schedule, plus at least one weekend every month and equal share of holidays, with occasional rotation to other shifts to meet staffing needs.  Shift hours may occasionally be cut or overtime required in accordance with patient volume.

EDUCATION - Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION - Certification as Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP or AMT; Current license as a Clinical Laboratory – Technician with the LSBME

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE - 6 months Clinical training through an approved MLT training hospital or previous MLT experience

JOB KNOWLEDGE - Testing of waived, moderate, and high complexity in the following disciplines: General Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Therapeutic Drugs, Toxicology, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Blood Bank, Parasitology, Serology, and Microbiology; Must possess analytical computer skills and knowledge of laboratory workflow
