Salary: $600+/week depending on experience

The Opportunity

Big Cove YMCA Camp is a residential summer camp for children aged 6–16 located in Sutherlands River, Nova Scotia. Big Cove is the oldest residential camp in Canada, founded by the YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth in 1889.  At camp, we believe that our exciting programs and dedicated staff are truly the pinnacle of the Big Cove Camp experience. 

Our staff are not only leaders but friends, teachers and role models to all of our campers. Camp staff members are a dedicated group of responsible young adults carefully selected for their character, maturity, skills and sincere interest in the growth and development of youth.  

So what does a site manager do? The Site Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the Big Cove Property. This includes basic repairs to facilities and equipment, general site upkeep (lawn and trail maintenance), site cleanliness and any health and safety concerns.

The Site Manager will also act as the primary driver at Big Cove, supporting the transportation of trips to and from destinations as well as the transportation of campers to and from the airport and hospitals. The Site Manager/Driver may be required to reside on site during the camp season.


Qualifications

● Must be 21 years of age by June 20, 2023

● Strong interpersonal skills are required along with a high degree of flexibility

● Minimum qualifications: Standard first Aid, CPR-C and a Class 4 Driver’s License, Canadian Boating License

● Please note a clear driver abstract is required for this position

● Some general maintenance skills would be an asset (plumbing, electrical, carpentry etc)

● Willingness to learn new skills on the job.



Note: Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and proof of valid First Aid and CPR training.  Employees will be required to attend YMCA Child Protection Training.
