QUALIFICATIONS:  Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below.  An example of an acceptable qualification for this position:

Completion of secondary education (high school or GED); experience and/or interest in working with older adults; must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language; or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Flexibility to assist with various duties within various departments as needed. Must be at least 18 years of age.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION: For purposes of 42 USC 12101:

 

(1) Assists with cooking/baking, setting up food service, and meal preparation.  Responsibilities could include, but are not limited to: preparing baked goods, ensuring proper food temperatures are maintained; sets up dining room (e.g., sets water, dishes, glassware, utensils, napkins, table linens, condiments, etc.); cleans dining room (e.g., clears and cleans tables, gathers and disposes of trash, etc.); assists in receiving and storage of food and kitchen supplies; handles, labels, and stores food in compliance with regulations of county and state health departments for infection control and to avoid contamination and spoilage.

(2) Assists with cleaning kitchen work areas (e.g., wipes countertops, washes utensils, cleans appliances, sweeps and mops floors, etc.); assists with the washing and cleaning of dishes, glasses, and utensils either by hand washing or use of the dishwasher; delivers soiled dining room linens to laundry as required.

(3) Sets up activities (e.g., lifts chairs with arms from stacks weighing approximately ten (10) pounds and carries chairs to desired location; lifts and carries boxes of supplies weighing approximately up to 25 pounds; pushes round banquet table weighing approximately 50 pounds; pushes podium on wheels weighing approximately 40 pounds; pushes small activity car with supplies weighing approximately 30 pounds; pushes large kitchen cart containing dishes weighing approximately 50 pounds; etc.).

(4) Performs a variety of housekeeping tasks as needed (e.g., pulls out furniture in order to clean around; runs vacuum cleaner; sweeps and mops floors; cleans and sanitizes toilets, sinks and showers; collects and disposes of trash; dusts on and around furniture; washes windows and screens; cleans blinds; wipes walls and stairwells to clean of dust and debris; cleans and sanitizes phones, remotes, call lights, door handles, hand rails; etc.); organizes and cleans cupboards and fridges.

(5) Places cleaning supplies in appropriate location (e.g., lifts and carries boxes of cleaning supplies weighing approximately up to 40 pounds; etc.); restocks paper products (e.g., toilet paper, paper towels, facial tissue, etc.) as needed.

(6) Launders personal items for elders if so requested in the assistance plan or on an as needed basis: linen, and other articles per policy (e.g., collects laundry; washes and dries laundry using washer and dryer; folds laundry; delivers clean laundry; etc.); collects and disposes of trash.

(7) Works to maintain a safe, clean and odor free environment for elders and staff; properly handles hazardous and infectious materials in accordance with procedure; reports malfunctioning housekeeping equipment to supervisor; recommends repair or replacement of frayed carpet, drapes, chipping paints, leaks, or other items in need of attention in the building.

(8) Performs security checks at designated times.

(9) Attends meetings, in-service sessions, conferences, and seminars, as assigned; participates in events as assigned.

(10) Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.

(11) Maintains all required licensure and certifications.

(12) Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.

(13) Maintains confidentiality as appropriate under Employer policy and all applicable laws and regulations.

(14) Complies with all Corporate Compliance Policies and the Code of Ethics.

(15) Participates in customer relations with appropriate and professional behavior and attire.

(16) Performs any and all other related duties as assigned or directed in order to promote, further, and ensure the caring, effective and efficient operation of the facilities of Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio.
