Driver - OTR Non-CDL

Description:

-          SML provides household goods moving services to customers across the US. Summer peak season is coming up and SML is looking for experienced commercial drivers to join our network! Drivers operate as Independent Contractors (1099) and do not require a CDL. Moves typically take 3-6 days but can be up to 8 days, spanning 50-3000 miles, utilizing 16’ or 26’ box trucks. Drivers are provided pay, airfare, hotels, transportation, fuel cards, and have other misc. expenses covered. Drivers are also provided an itinerary before each job detailing dates, addresses, and important times, as well as airport and truck reservation info.

Responsibilities:

-          Follow the trip itinerary.

-          Be on time for flights to load areas and flights home or to another job.

-          Provide friendly customer service when onsite at the load/unload. Loading the truck typically takes 2-6 hours but on larger moves can be upwards of 8. Unloads are typically half of the load time. 

-          Work with SML on the road to setup travel arrangements daily. 

-          Take inventory when necessary.

-          Take on new tasks on an as-needed basis. (i.e., Drivers may be asked to pickup supplies or have flexibility in making changes to load/unload addresses)

-          Drivers are responsible for maintaining Hours of Service (HoS) logs. HoS logs must be turned in post-trip.

Seasonality:

-          Jobs likely become consistent May/June/July. Our industry is seasonal with peak season aligning with Summer months. There is always a possibility of maintaining consistent jobs through slower months depending on performance and business needs. 

Pay (DOQ):

-          Base: $0.35/mile & $15/hour

-          Daily Rates may apply to some jobs ($150-$175/day)

-          Pay is based on miles driven, hours working but not driving (flights, loads/unloads), and # days out

Experience:

-          Commercial driving experience: 2 years (required)

-          Box truck (16’-26’): 1 year (preferred)

License:

-          Class C (required)

-          CDL (optional)

Freight Handling:

-          No touch- SML Vendors/Crews provide loading & unloading services

Requirements:

-          Be at least 21 years of age

-          Reliable

-          Ability to fly in/out of a major/international airport

-          Pre-employment road test & drug screen required

-          Able to spend 2-8 days away from home consistently

-          Follow itinerary & be timely

-          Clean MVR

-          No more than three (3) moving violations within the last five (5) years

-          Valid DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain a DOT Medical Card

-          Ability to print trip documents or pickup at DFW office. Ability to scan or take pictures of documents to send back to SML

-          Languages: English (fluent)
