This program pays at least minimum wage for your province. The summer employment length is 7-16 weeks between the beginning of May and beginning of September.
Students at a post-secondary institution are welcomed and encouraged to apply for this position as part of a program’s requirements for a co-op or work placement.
As a Department Manager, you will oversee and be responsible for all operations and staff within the department. The Department Manager will take part in hiring and onboarding processes for their prospective staff, including training and orientation, and will be responsible for scheduling, guiding, and supporting the department’s work and goals. Department Managers will also meet at least weekly at a company Leadership meeting, and will take part in leading company-wide staff meetings. Each Department Manager will report directly to Corporate Services, including the Managing Director and other members of the Leadership Team.
Professional Development (PD) is responsible for planning, scheduling, advertising, and making all arrangements for resources for workshops and training. The Co-op highly values professional development and aims to offer professional development opportunities for all employees and Professional Members of The Co-op. Trainings and workshops include a large variety of member-wide, department-specific, and program-specific topics. The PD workshops are a key component of our artistic programming.
Due to federal funding requirements for this program, successful applicants must be:
15–30 years of age on their first day of work;
A Canadian citizen, have a permanent resident card, or be protected under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (there is no requirement to be a student);
Residing in Canada during the length of the employment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operations of the Professional Development Department
Work with staff engaged in providing records management, finance, human resources or other administrative services
Plan, administer and control budgets for contracts, equipment and supplies
Prepare reports and briefs for management committees
Cooperate with HR to interview, hire, onboard and oversee training for staff
Communicate job expectations to staff
Ensure company goals and objectives are being met by each employee and provide feedback
Motivate and inspire staff and facilitate personal growth through team and individual activities and goal-setting
Attend regular meetings with other leaders, including the Managing Director, to plan and address company and programming needs
Host/moderate trainings (note that trainings are recorded, and may be broadcast live)
Develop workshop materials and other resources for program delivery
Communicate information with external speakers, including confirmation of date, time, location, honorarium, and online meeting details
Create informative training note sheets that can be provided to participants following each workshop
Liaise with the Broadcast Team within Creative Services to ensure successful broadcasting and production of livestreamed workshops and trainings
Approve timesheets and time off requests for staff under their supervision
Set strategic long and short-term departmental goals and evaluate outcomes
Foster a productive work environment
Ensure adherence to company and industry regulations
Perform other appropriate duties as assigned by management
The ideal candidate will possess or be nearing completion of a post-secondary or post-graduate program in one of the fields of Business, Music Business, Education, Human Resources, Communication, Music, Psychology, or related field; or possess equivalent work experience and knowledge.
The ideal candidate will have one to three years of experience as a manager, supervisor, or leader (including, but not limited to, peer mentors, camp counsellors, instructors, etc.).
Experience creating and implementing strategies for an online work environment is an asset.

Online communications platforms (Slack, Discord, Zoom, etc.)
The Co-op seeks individuals who enjoy collaboration, creativity, learning new skills, and engaging with artists and the community. This position may involve working some evenings and weekends as needed for special events (typically mass interviews and onboardings) and items needed on an urgent basis.

Membership is not required to participate in the competition for this position, and no preference is given to existing members in our ranking process, however, upon acceptance of an employment contract, all employees are required to join the co-operative.
