Salary:  $13 - $17/hour, commensurate with experience                

 

Position Summary: Located at the C. Kirk Rhein, Jr., Center for the Living Arts, this seasonal position works as part of a team that serves Rhein Center customers/students and supports Teaching Artists and fellow staff.

Ideally, applicant should be available to work from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day and is expected to work days, some weekends, and some holidays. Hours of operation in high point of the season (end of June through early August) are primarily Mon., 8:00am to 7:00pm; Tue.-Fri., 8:00am to 4:30pm, and Sat., 9:30am to 1:30pm. Individual weekly hours will range from 30 to 40 hours. Affordable dorm housing in a camp environment may be available.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

·         Demonstrate strong customer service skills for front desk in-person assistance and phone inquiries; direct students to classes; call wait-listed students.

·         Assist students/customers with class registrations using ACTIVE Net registration software following established procedures and protocols.

·         Under supervision of Manager or Assistant Manager, open/close cash drawer; manage cash transactions.

·         Assist Rhein Center Teaching Artists with class set-up and tear-down, pulling materials and supplies, setting up equipment; assist teacher and/or students during class as needed.

·         Assist with facility set-up and tear-down for classes and special events as needed; open and close facility in accordance with procedures including locking tent tables and chairs, covering outdoor sink and trash cans, sweeping away debris and standing water as needed.

·         Assist with transporting supplies and class set-up for any classes held off the Rhein Center grounds.

·         Facilitate classes, particularly those with young children, by aiding Teaching Artists in the supervision of children to maintain a safe and fun environment for all.

·         Monitor and maintain inventory of art and craft supplies, office supplies, cleaning and facility supplies; alert Manager or Assistant Manager as supplies run low.

·         Keep supplies organized including regularly straightening up and restocking community supplies; refill consumables like glue and paint.

·         Keep building clean to ensure a quality experience, including restrooms and indoor and outdoor class spaces.

·         Remove trash, emptying individual bins and replacing with clean bags as needed; clean bins with hose as necessary; take large bins to roadside following pick-up schedule.

·         Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications:

·         Knowledge of and experience with art materials and methods preferred.

·         Teaching experience helpful.

·         Aptitude for communicating effectively very helpful.

·         Enthusiasm for teaching children helpful; patience and respect for all ages a must.

·         Computer competence preferred; ability to learn registration software quickly a must.

·         Ability to work for long hours in all weather conditions – hot and humid to cool and damp – a must.

·         Ability to learn and adapt to changing and challenging situations a must.

·         Ability to use time efficiently; always finding a task to work on very helpful.

·         College students looking for internship/externship/experiential learning welcome.

·         High-school students or retirees looking for seasonal work in a creative, fast-paced environment welcome.
