Gateway House - 24 Hour Client/Youth Support Worker
Part Time: Guaranteed 20 hours a week.
Responsibilities: To work with the clients of the YWCA Central Avenue Shelter, providing guidance, support, and life skills to empower and promote independence. To maintain a clean and secure facility and assist the residents when necessary.
Reports to: Gateway House Supervisors & Manager
Qualifications:
- Valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver’s License and a clean abstract.
- Practical experience in the human services field.
- Experience working with individuals with mental health challenges, substance use concerns, and/or cognitive disabilities.
- Maintain professional boundaries in and out of the workplace as outlined in the YWCA Code of Conduct and Ethics Agreement.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Work well in a crisis.
- Flexible, reliable, and willing to participate in continuous learning opportunities.
- Must be able to lift heavy items/preform heavy cleaning.
- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture with a mindset that is accepting to reconciliation.
- Reliable transportation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications with strong computer skills.
- Must pass Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Ability to work independently, as a team, and follow policies and procedures;
- Excellent time management skills.
- Have excellent people skills and work well in crises;

Duties:
- Guide the residents, providing support & advocacy as they transition into adulthood/independence.
- Must be a good role model to youth/clients.
- Manage challenging behavior, verbal de-escalation.
- Maintain building security, perform room/bag checks.
- Ensure major housecleaning duties are completed as well as everyday cleaning/chores.
- Ensure room checks are completed on a consistent basis, report any need for repairs or replacement of furniture, blinds, etc. to the maintenance team.
- Attend staff meetings, training, and workshops as required.
- Communicate with the Manager/Supervisors and co-workers as part of a cohesive team.
- Provide feedback to the Manager/Supervisors on client issues, major events, and incident reports.
- Attend to crises as they arise during no-office hours. Contact the Manager/Supervisor in the event of a major crisis.
- Ensure all YWCA Prince Albert policies are adhered to.
- Ensure all policies related to MSS, CPS, YO & CSC are adhered to.
- Prioritize work, attending to the most urgent needs of the clientele first.
- Work unsupervised.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Must be able to work both evenings & weekends, as well as holidays.
- Must be able to work shift work & overnights.
- Must report any instances of Child Abuse or neglect including physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional maltreatment, neglect, & domestic violence.
- Any other duties as requested by management.
