2026-007 - Paid On Call Firefighter

The District of Sooke Fire Department is seeking qualified members to fill Paid On Call Firefighter positions. This opportunity has been established to meet current operational needs.
The rate of pay range for Paid On Call Firefighter positions is $20.64 - $44.24 per hour.
There will be a Paid On Call Firefighter Recruitment Session at 7:00pm on Wednesday, August 26, held at Fire Station 1, 2225 Otter Point Road
Closing date for receipt of applications is 9:00 pm on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
- Be a minimum of 18 years old to begin training.
- Completion of Grade 12 or recognized equivalent
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid BC Class 5 or Class 7 Drivers License and a current drivers abstract
- Satisfactory completion of a Police Information Check must be submitted as a condition of employment
Additional consideration may be given to applicant with the following qualifications and skills:
- Completion of BC Class 1, 2, 3 or 4 Drivers License and a current drivers abstract
- Air Brake endorsement
- Previous fire or emergency services experience
- Fire related certificate completions, such as NFPA 1001, 1002, 472, 1051
- Post secondary education
- Technical or trade certificate
- First Aid training
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work as a team player
- Experience with FDM, SharePoint, Tempest, Target Solutions
- Residence within the boundaries of the District of Sooke
