About Working on a “Floatel 

LandSea will be providing workforce catering and accommodation services for guests onboard the MV Isabelle, a 650-passenger “Floatel”. The Floatel will be permanently docked in Squamish, B.C. and is estimated to operate for up to three years. All crew members onboard the MV Isabelle must have the minimum marine safety certifications required by Transport Canada for the specific job. 


Individuals who do not have the required marine safety certifications (see details below) will be required to attend a 5 – 10-day marine safety program. LandSea covers the costs of training, however, crew who do not complete minimum employment contracts are responsible for repaying part of all the training costs.  


At work, the crew are provided with accommodation, full meals, WIFI and can access health/gym facilities they can access when off work. We provide partial uniforms and help with the travel/reservations as needed to and from locations. Excellent Health and Wellness benefits are offered after three months.   


About the Opportunity 

The 2nd Cook is responsible for assisting the 1st Cook in preparing all meals and ensuring the kitchen, dining and living areas are clean and sanitary at all times. This position requires the ability to follow directions, be diligent, focused and consistent. Comfort with kitchen equipment and knife skills are required. 


General Duties and Responsibilities 

All food preparations such as breakfast, lunch, sandwiches, snacks, hot dinner meals, salads, soups etc. 

Set up of breakfast line, lunch station, and dining room; monitor accompaniments and restock as required 

Clean up after all meal service, including wiping tables, and counters and washing pots, pans, dishes, and cutlery 

Sweep and mop floors, wipe tables and counters, break down cardboard; boxes, maintain kitchen appliances, clean vents and exhaust areas 

Assist with preparation and disassembly for moving and relocation 

Report to 1st Cook all food and equipment-related concerns and issues 

Assist 1st Cook with administration, ordering and inventory counts 

Learn the 1st Cook role so can assist when necessary 

Other duties as may be assigned 


Qualifications 

Minimum of 3-5 years experience as 2nd Cook, preferably in a remote environment 

Proven organizational and time management skills in an industrial kitchen environment 

Food Safety certification in the province of British Columbia for the duration of employment is required 

Advanced (level 2) Food Safety certification is preferred 

First Aid Certification is preferred 

Ability to work within a multicultural diverse environment 

Excellent written and verbal English 

Proven experience with inventory and grocery ordering 


Physical Requirements

Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch for long periods of time  

Repeat the same movements including fast, repetitive movements of fingers, hands, and wrists  

Use muscles to lift, push, pull or carry objects up to 50 lbs  

Use hands to handle objects and tools  

Willingness to travel often 


Certifications and other requirements  

Domestic Vessel Safety Certificate  

Passenger Safety Management Certificate 

Advanced First Aid an asset 

Ability to clear a drug and alcohol test prior to hiring and potential random tests throughout employment with prior notice; 

Serving it Right Certification an asset 

WHMIS 2015 

Valid Government-issued Identification 

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada (Canadian, PR Status, or valid Work Permit)
