Communications and Knowledge Mobilization Summer Internship

About the Position


ONCAT is seeking a recent graduate or graduate student with a strong interest in communications and knowledge mobilization to help translate research into accessible content and promote best practices in student transfer within the postsecondary education system. This short-term, entry-level role will focus on developing clear, engaging materials for various audiences, and supporting knowledge mobilization through content development for social media, newsletters, presentations, and other channels. Reporting to the Communications Manager and Knowledge Mobilization Specialist, the successful candidate will collaborate with researchers to distill complex findings into accessible, evidence-based content for materials including research summaries, transfer resources, learning events, and other creative outputs.

Key Responsibilities 
  • Liaise with and interview funded and internal researchers; distill the information and write plain language summaries of their projects.
  • Summarize and find creative ways to present research findings to support ONCAT’s communications and knowledge mobilization goals. Deliverable include developing resource materials, creating infographics, presentations, research snapshots, case studies, webinars, and learning events.
  • Develop content for social media, ONCAT.ca, YouTube, and our transfer and student mobility research SharePoint sites.
  • Post sector and updates, event invitations, videos and resources to our sector SharePoint site.
  • Conduct weekly sector scans; track sector news, research and policy publications.
  • Additional responsibilities include assisting with organizational tasks, supporting daily operations, and providing general administrative support as needed.

 

Essential Qualifications and Experiences 
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, Humanities, or a Social Sciences discipline. 
  • A certificate in Knowledge Mobilization or a strong understanding of its principles is an asset.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Solid understanding of rhetorical principles, including audience, purpose for writing, genre, etc. 
  • Able to build relationships and work collaboratively to create engaging content.
  • Effective time management and project management skills. 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft platforms (MS Office and SharePoint).
  • Familiarity with digital communication practices and principles. 
  • Strong curiosity and desire to learn.
  • Quantitative research literacy (statistical literacy) an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Canva and other graphic design tools is an asset.
  • Fluency in English and French preferred.
