responsibility of the Street Level Intern is to support the staff and the
community participants in creating a space where all are welcome, safety and
supports are offered and meaningful activities and community involvement are
Interns will participate in programs which
are essential to the alleviation of poverty and homelessness including basic
services (food bank depot, meal program, clothing centre). They will also
support and run community development programs (coach inner-city baseball team,
community gardens and food sustainability, community clean-ups and employment
three positions (one in each hub listed below), that will be hired from this
one posting. Below is a brief description of each hub and some site specific
duties as well as the duties listed above.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Neighbor Centre (10050
- 81 Ave, Edmonton SW)
- Encouraging our community to assist in the
gardening and flower care, as well as planning our summer BBQ/picnic;
planning and facilitating some summer community events with the local
business community and our participants.
The Mosaic Centre (12758
Fort Rd, Edmonton NE)
- Intern Duties – Organize annual block party,
Contact Donors for Event, Organize Volunteers for Event; Assist with
Community Garden – organize community, planting day, help with mini
seminars with regard to canning, medicinal herbs etc.; Organize Summer
Clean up Crew – assemble and schedule clean up teams, ensure equipment is
available and is returned, cleaning t-shirts, accompany teams.
96 Street Location
-Church (10638 - 96 Street, Edmonton NW)
- Intern Duties – helping at evening meals,
assisting in the Food Depot, participating in drop in programs, community
garden, after meal community events, organizing baseball league (practices
and games) and jam sessions.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Experience working with our most vulnerable
population is an asset
- Empathy for the poor and a desire for
greater understanding concerning poverty and justice issues in an urban
- Strong computer, communication and conflict
- Strong team building and leadership skills
- Must be currently enrolled in fulltime in a
post-secondary program and fully intending to return to fulltime studies
in the fall
- Between the ages of 15 - 30 years of age
(inclusive) at the start of employment

is temporary and it is a requirement that interns can attend all 16 weeks
