Wilderness Camp Leader

The Wilderness Camp Leader is a vital member of our summer team, providing direct supervision and leading engaging outdoor activities. Under the guidance of the Site Supervisor, this role ensures a safe, structured, and adventurous environment while fostering respect for nature and one another.

 Responsibilities

·         Provide direct supervision to campers (K–5th grade), ensuring safety at all times

·         Plan and lead outdoor activities such as hiking, nature exploration, team challenges, and environmental education

·         Teach basic outdoor skills and promote environmental awareness

·         Maintain and organize outdoor equipment and program supplies

·         Follow YMCA policies and safety procedures

·         Build positive relationships with campers and families

·         Model YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility

 Qualifications

·         Experience working with school-age children

·         Background in outdoor education, environmental science, recreation, or related field preferred

·         Knowledge of outdoor safety practices and risk management

·         Strong leadership and group management skills

·         Energetic, responsible, and comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
