Graphic Designers are a part of the ‘Build Team’ within the Creative Services Department. Other team members include audio producers, video producers, and photographers. Members of the Build Team report to their Team Lead, the Creative Services Administrative Manager, and other members of leadership as needed. They work to create and edit graphic resources as needed for social media and marketing assets, internal and external-facing videos, and educational materials (print and digital).

Work assigned to Graphic Designers will be assigned based on each individual’s strengths, experiences, and interest, and consist of a mix of general branded design, motion graphic design, and art/illustration. Projects may include and are not limited to:

  • Flyers

  • Posters, banners, and signage (e.g. sandwich boards and freestanding banners)

  • Infographics

  • Brochures (print and digital)

  • Email marketing and newsletter templates

  • Social media ads, banners and graphics

  • Images for websites and content marketing posts

  • Graphics for written reports

  • T-shirts and other merchandise

  • Other promotional and education materials (print and digital)


Due to federal funding requirements for this program, successful applicants must be:

  • 15–30 years of age on their first day of work;

  • A Canadian citizen, have a permanent resident card, or be protected under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (there is no requirement to be a student); 

  • Residing in Canada during the length of the employment.

This program pays minimum wage for your province. The summer employment length is 7-16 weeks between May and September. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Consult with Corporate Services Officers and members of the Marketing and Communications Team to establish and create the overall look, graphic elements, and graphic content of communications materials to meet organizational and public relations needs.

  • Develop graphic elements that meet the objectives of requests submitted from other parts of the organization.

  • Prepare sketches, layouts, and graphic elements of the subjects to be rendered using traditional tools, multimedia software, and image processing, layout, and design software.

  • Estimate cost of materials and time to complete assigned works.

  • Use existing photo and illustration banks and typography guides to produce images that meet internal and external communications needs.

  • Consult on and follow guidelines established in the company branding guide.

  • Coordinate aspects of production for print, audio-visual or digital materials, such as web sites, brochures, company clothing, etc.

  • Work comfortably in a multidisciplinary environment, and communicate effectively and regularly.

  • Cooperate with other department workers and supervisors to achieve departmental and organizational goals.

  • Will be required to work alongside other graphic designers, graphic arts technicians, photographers, videos editors, and others as part of the Creative Services department.

  • Perform other appropriate duties as assigned by management.

Education/experience requirements:

  • The ideal candidate will possess or be nearing completion of a post-secondary or post-graduate program in Graphic Design; or possess equivalent work experience and knowledge.

  • Experience creating and implementing strategies for an online work environment is an asset.

    • Online communications platforms (Slack, Discord, Zoom, etc.)

    • Graphic design softwares (Canva, Adobe Illustrator, etc.)


The Co-op seeks individuals who enjoy collaboration, creativity, learning new skills, and engaging with artists and the community. This position may involve working some evenings and weekends as needed for special events and items needed on an urgent basis.

Membership is not required to participate in the competition for this position, and no preference is given to existing members in our ranking process, however, upon acceptance of an employment contract, all employees are required to join the co-operative.

Those not selected as a Graphic Designer are still welcome to join The Co-op as members. Professional Creator members have access to the same live or digital resources, support and community as those in our musician programs.
