Currently, Vysnova is seeking a highly qualified and motivated Data Processing Specialist supporting USAID's Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) program.

Location:         Rockville, MD

Who We’re Looking For

Vysnova is seeking a Data Processing Specialist responsible for developing and supporting mobile data collection and data analysis as part of the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) program in one or more countries. The DHS Program is a USAID-funded project that has collected, analyzed, and disseminated accurate and representative data on population, health, HIV, and nutrition through more than 300 surveys in over 90 countries. The position involves working with host- country implementing organizations to implement the DHS Program surveys and activities to meet data needs within budget and time constraints.

Specific Programmatic And Technical Tasks Include

·       Develop and support mobile data capture (CAPI) systems on both Windows and Android platforms to support population and health facilities surveys in developing countries using the CSPro software system

·       Work with in-country IT counterparts and south to south consultants to strengthen their capacity in developing and supporting mobile data capture systems

·       Prepare training materials and work with implementing agencies to train local field staff in mobile data collection

·       Supervise initial fieldwork activities and provide local and remote troubleshooting assistance to support mobile data collection

·       Strengthen capacity within implementing agencies worldwide via workshops and seminars on data use and survey processing

·       Work with subject specialists to produce standardized data analysis in CSPro

·       Prepare and check standardized data files prior to their release to the public via our website

·       Communicate throughout all stages of the survey process with other DHS staff, implementing agencies, USAID Missions, and other key stakeholders in a clear and timely manner


The position will be based in Rockville, Maryland, and involves approximately 25-30% travel mainly to countries in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. Trips are typically 2-5 weeks in duration.

What You'll Need To Succeed

·       Bachelor’s degree required,  Master’s degree preferred in a relevant discipline such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Public Health, Demography

·       Strong programming skills in a language such as C#, C++, Python, Java or similar

·       Experience in training or willingness to learn

·       Good spoken and written English

·       Strong organizational and self-management skills, including the ability to balance multiple tasks simultaneously and set strategic priorities

·       Ability to work both independently and in teams

·       Strong analytical and problem solving skills


Preferred Qualifications

·       Experience in using CSPro or other survey software such as Survey Solutions, Open Data Kit (ODK) or similar

·       Experience and interest in public health or demographic research

·       Ability to speak French

·       Experience of working in low- and middle-income countries.

·       Experience in training large groups of adult participants
