Core Responsibilities
Operate Equipment: Set up and run MIG welding machines, gas supplies, and wire feed speeds.
Read Blueprints: Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and welding symbols.
Prepare Materials: Clean, grind, cut, and fit metal parts before welding.
Weld Components: Join metals in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
Inspect Quality: Check finished welds for cracks, flaws, or structural weaknesses.
Maintain Tools: Clean equipment and perform routine maintenance on torches and machines. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Training: Completion of a formal welding certification, technical program, or hands-on apprenticeship.
Experience: 6 months to 2+ years of hands-on welding experience in a manufacturing or fabrication shop.
Physical Strength: Ability to stand for long periods, bend, and lift heavy metal parts (often 50–75 lbs).
Safety Knowledge: Strict adherence to OSHA guidelines and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) like helmets and gloves. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
