Human Resources Intern

Department: Human Resources
Classification: Temporary / Internship Part time/Full time 
Reports To: Human Resources Director 
Location: Becker Global America / SMC

Position Summary

The Human Resources Intern provides administrative and project support to the Human Resources department while gaining practical experience in a professional HR environment. This position offers exposure to multiple areas of human resources, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, training, compliance, payroll support, and records management.

This is a summer internship opportunity designed to provide hands-on experience for students and recent graduates interested in Human Resources. While the position is temporary in nature, high-performing interns may be considered for future part-time, internship extension, or full-time employment opportunities based on business needs, performance, and available openings.


The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, maintains confidentiality, and is interested in developing a career in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Including but not limited to the following:

Recruitment & Staffing
  • Assist with posting open positions on job boards and company websites.
  • Screen resumes and organize applicant files.
  • Schedule interviews and communicate with candidates.
  • Assist with new hire orientation and onboarding activities.
  • Maintain applicant tracking records.
Employee Records & HR Administration
  • Create, organize, and maintain employee personnel files.
  • Audit employee records for completeness and compliance.
  • Assist with data entry and updates within HRIS systems.
  • Support document retention and records management initiatives.
Benefits & Payroll Support
  • Assist with benefits enrollment and employee communications.
  • Support payroll processing activities by reviewing attendance and documentation.
  • Assist with benefit audits and reconciliation projects.
  • Help prepare employee communications related to benefits and company programs.
Compliance & Employee Relations
  • Assist with maintaining compliance postings and required employment documentation.
  • Support HR investigations by gathering documentation and maintaining records.
  • Assist with policy updates and employee handbook revisions.
  • Help prepare reports related to turnover, attendance, recruiting, and workforce demographics.
Training & Development
  • Assist with training coordination and scheduling.
  • Track employee training records and certifications.
  • Prepare training materials and presentation packets.
  • Support employee engagement and recognition initiatives.
Special Projects
  • Participate in HR improvement initiatives and special projects.
  • Assist with compensation surveys and market research.
  • Support HR metrics reporting and workforce analytics.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education
  • Completion of or currently pursuing an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in:
    • Human Resources
    • Business Administration
    • Management
    • Organizational Leadership
    • Related field
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Professional demeanor and customer-service mindset.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior administrative, customer service, or office experience.
  • Experience with HRIS, payroll, or applicant tracking systems.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in Human Resources.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to move throughout office and manufacturing environments as needed.

By the completion of the internship, the HR Intern will gain practical experience in:

  • HR analytics and reporting.

This position is intended to provide meaningful hands-on experience while supporting the overall goals and objectives of the Human Resources department.
