EfficiencyOne is looking for an On-site Energy Manager (Engineering) who will be responsible for providing energy management services for NSLC (participant) and other technical support as directed by EfficiencyOne and the participant. Reporting to the EfficiencyOne Manager, Field Engineering and working directly with the Manager, Network Development at NSLC, the OEM will provide technical support to the participants which will involve visits to NSLC owned locations and working with the network/facilities team, architectural / engineering consultants, and business unit management to promote energy efficiency. The OEM will be accountable for the overall leadership of the participant's strategic energy management plan.  The OEM will be accountable to develop strategies and implement insight-driven business tactics, enabling the accomplishment of the Corporation’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) / Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) goals. The OEM will be accountable for building strong internal/external stakeholder relationships while effectively managing vendor and consultant partnerships. 


  • Lead strategic energy management planning, and assisted with the identification and implementation of energy efficiency projects
  • Incorporate energy efficiency design into Network and Facilities projects
  • Using project management discipline in collaboration with internal stakeholders, external consultants, and build partners, ensure energy projects are achieving maximum energy savings and full incentive payout
  • Implementation and utilization of the Energy Star Energy Portfolio Manager platform to track and monitor utility energy and water performances for all buildings
  • Increase awareness of energy efficiency for employees including behavioral influences on energy consumption
  • Complete technical audits, evaluate energy efficiency technologies, perform feasibility studies, and prepare project business cases including all available incentives
  • Connect energy efficiency measure recommendations to NSLC’s building condition assessments
  • Develop an understanding of the organization's budgetary framework and procurement policies related to energy management
  • Project management support for all energy-related capital projects, including liaison to energy service consultants
  • Development and review of energy efficiency project procurement
  • Provide leadership to staff and external consultants working collaboratively in teams to deliver and support strategic energy goals related to Network Development, Procurement and Facilities
  • Provide guidance and support for sustainability projects aligned with CSR/ESG
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships internally and externally
  • Serve as a role model in support of the NSLC’s values and Responsibility Mandate
  • Serve as a Role model in the NSLC’s commitment to workplace Health and Safety
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, travel as required 

 Experience Qualifications:

  • Five years of related experience in an engineering role of which at least three years were working in a leadership capacity and practical knowledge of retail commercial building systems and utilities would be considered an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret electrical and mechanical plans and specifications for building facilities
  • Proficient with all Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
  • Excellent analytical skills, written and oral communications skills; thrive in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment where problem-solving skills help meet tight deadlines.
  • A valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle

Education Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technologist Diploma or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Designation as a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP) is considered an asset.

Find out more about your first several weeks on the job:  

In the first week, expect to:

  • Meet with the OEM and Services team
  • Develop a high-level plan for the first 90 days in your role as an OEM: and
  • Be prepared to read! OEM service manual, business program manuals, protocols on measurement and verification, energy auditing guidelines, example reports from Senior OEMs, and examples of other organizations' energy management plans. Ensuring you are familiar with both technical resources and reference material is critical to executing your short-term plan on-site.

 In the first month, expect to:

  • Become familiar with the people and organizations within the participant organizations. Organizational awareness includes understanding people that influence projects, are familiar with the facilities and the processes i.e., procurement, budget planning, etc.
  • Review ISO 50001 – Energy Management Systems and apply it to your present and future planning
  • Meet with Efficiency NS Program Managers to get a better understanding of project incentives and program processes
  • Meet with Senior OEMs to bounce ideas around on strategies and tactics that will increase your influence and impact on the account organization; and
  • Meet with consultant networks to explore their services that could be beneficial for your account.

In the first three months, expect to:

  • Establish monitoring, tracking, and reporting for your account. Critical for Efficiency NS and for creating visibility within your accounts
  • On-site energy audits – identify technologies and efficiency solutions
  • Create business cases for projects working with contractors, consultants, and account staff
  • Build a master list of energy efficiency measures; and
  • Develop a framework for your account’s Energy Management Plan which is a living document. This plan is a roadmap for your work as an OEM and the organizations on their path towards corporate / government environmental and economic targets.
