General Manager, Tours and Activities

We are currently recruiting a versatile, adventure seeking General Manager, Tours and Activities to oversee the operational and logistical actions related to organizing and executing Frontiers North Adventures’ tour programs and activities. This position may be located in Winnipeg or Churchill, Manitoba, and will require travel to both locations. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee all operational and logistical actions related to organizing and executing all Frontiers North Adventures’ (FNA) tour programs and activities.
  • Conduct seasonal workforce resource planning. Recruit, hire, onboard and train new and returning seasonal tours and activities and garage employees.
  • Delegate responsibilities and supervise the work of direct reports, providing guidance and motivation to drive maximum performance.
  • Create and assign work schedules for Tundra Buggy™ drivers, bus drivers, guides, and the garage team.
  • Create opportunities for cross training to strengthen teams, create more opportunities for advancement within the company, and create redundancies for periods of employee leaves and turnover.
  • Drive improvements in tour operations and guest satisfaction by fostering a collaborative team environment within the operations and logistics team and with other departments
  • Coordinate tour scheduling activities with the 58 North retail team.
  • Coordinate freight pickups and deliveries.
  • Coordinate all ground transportation and guest luggage activities.
  • Maintain Tundra Buggy™ and FNA fleet vehicle leases and insurance with third parties.
  • Ensure Tundra Buggies™ and FNA fleet vehicle repairs and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Oversee FNA’s inventory of accommodations and activities, both in-house and with external vendors.
  • Regularly update vendor and purchasing suppliers; maintain positive vendor relations.
  • Create opportunities for efficiencies and cost savings, tracking and monitoring expenses to ensure all tours and activities are operating within budget.
  • Track metrics and analyze data to optimize operations.

  • Ensure the work area is clean, sanitary, well-organized, and hazard free.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Post-secondary education from an accredited institution in logistics, operations, business, travel and/or a related field, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in logistics and/or operations, preferably in the tourism industry.
  • 2+ years’ experience in operations management.
  • Ability to organize and maintain complex activities and multi-faceted projects and handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Ability to develop mutually beneficial lasting relationships with external stakeholders, board members, direct reports, and coworkers.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English; other languages are an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a computer, including Mac operating systems, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Internet, and server databases.
  • Must be able to work individually and as part of a team.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Mix of office, garage, and outdoor environment; long periods of sitting, using a computer and mouse, and viewing information on a computer monitor.
  • The ability to travel to Winnipeg and Churchill Manitoba and other locations by air, vehicle, and/or train is required.
  • Valid Class 5 (standard) driver’s license is required.
  • The ability to obtain a valid Class 4 (buses up to 24 passengers) is required; possession of a valid Class 4 licence is an asset.
  • Valid Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) is an asset.
  • The ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds (22.68 kilograms) is required.
  • Overtime is required during evenings, weekends, and on holidays, especially during peak seasons.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
