The Opportunity
Big Cove YMCA Camp is a residential summer camp for children aged 6–16 located in Sutherlands River, Nova Scotia. Big Cove is the oldest residential camp in Canada, founded by the YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth in 1889. At camp, we believe that our exciting programs and dedicated staff are truly the pinnacle of the Big Cove Camp experience.
Our staff are not only leaders but friends, teachers and role models to all of our campers. Camp staff members are a dedicated group of responsible young adults carefully selected for their character, maturity, skills and sincere interest in the growth and development of youth.
The Kitchen Assistant is a vital role in the kitchen at Big Cove. They are responsible for helping with the prep of meals, the flow of getting meals out, helping with orders, assisting with dietary needs and much more! This job is demanding in the sense as you will have to be up early to help with the prep of breakfast, then follows for lunch and ends the day with dinner. Once dinner is completely finished, its is the assistants job to make sure that the snack is ready for the evening before leaving for the day. The Kitchen assistant work directly with the assistant cook and the food service manager.
Qualifications
- Must be 17 years of age by December 31, 2023
- A minimum of two years working at a summer camp, Kitchens or related experience
- Minimum qualifications: Food Handlers, Standard First Aid and CPR C, WHIMIS
- Start Date: Summer session (June 25)
Note: Successful candidates will be
required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable
Sector Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and proof of valid First Aid and CPR
training. Employees will be required to attend YMCA Child Protection Training.
