Shipper/Receiver – Precision Manufacturing
Build Your Career with Ideal Gear
For more than 100 years, Ideal Gear & Machine Works has built a reputation for precision, craftsmanship, and dependable service. From our facility in Delta, B.C., we manufacture high-precision gears and machined components for demanding industries including mining, marine, power generation, oil and gas, and cement.
We are looking for a dependable and highly organized Shipper/Receiver who takes ownership of the details. You will play a vital role in keeping materials, information, and finished products moving safely and accurately through our operation.
This is a hands-on role that combines shipping and receiving, material handling, documentation, and deburring. It connects Purchasing, Production, Logistics, customers, suppliers, and local freight providers.
Be the person who keeps precision moving—from the moment material arrives to the moment finished work leaves our floor.
The Opportunity
You will be responsible for the accurate flow of materials into and out of our facility—from receiving and verifying raw materials to preparing high-value, precision-manufactured components for shipment.
A significant part of this role involves deburring manufactured components to remove sharp edges and help ensure they meet our quality and handling standards. Previous deburring experience is helpful but not required; we will teach the right person how to perform the work safely and correctly.
You will work closely with the General Shop Labourer and production team, with shared responsibilities and cross-training in deburring, material handling, and other shop-support activities.
The right person notices when something does not match, asks questions before a small issue becomes a larger one, and follows through until the work is complete. You will thrive here if you value safety, accuracy, organization, teamwork, and being someone others can count on.
What You’ll Do
- Receive, unload, inspect, identify, label, and organize incoming materials.
- Verify received goods against purchase orders, manifests, invoices, and supporting documentation.
- Identify and report shortages, damage, documentation issues, and other discrepancies promptly.
- Direct waybills, certificates, and receiving documents to the appropriate internal teams.
- Move and stage materials safely in the warehouse, yard, and production areas using appropriate material-handling equipment.
- Deburr manufactured components using appropriate hand tools and equipment, following work instructions and quality expectations.
- Inspect deburred parts to confirm that sharp edges have been removed and the work meets established requirements.
- Work collaboratively with the General Shop Labourer and production team to provide cross-coverage for deburring, material handling, and shared shop responsibilities.
- Package, crate, palletize, protect, seal, and label precision-manufactured products for transportation.
- Prepare accurate work orders, packing slips, shipping labels, bills of lading, export documents, and other shipment records.
- Confirm shipment weights, dimensions, status, and pickup requirements with the Logistics Coordinator.
- Schedule daily local pickups and coordinate requirements with local carriers, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Track packaging and crating supplies and communicate replenishment needs before shortages affect production.
- Maintain clean, safe, and well-organized shipping, receiving, deburring, and staging areas.
- Adjust to changing production priorities while maintaining accuracy and following through on commitments.
- Contribute wherever needed to help the team deliver safe, accurate, and on-time results.
What You Bring
- Experience in shipping, receiving, warehousing, logistics, material handling, or an industrial shop environment.
- A willingness to learn and perform deburring as a regular and significant part of the position.
- The ability to accurately match physical materials with purchase orders, packing slips, and shipping records.
- Strong organizational skills and careful attention to detail.
- Confidence using computers and learning digital inventory, shipping, and business systems.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with production teams, Purchasing, Logistics, carriers, suppliers, and customers.
- A safety-first approach to loading, unloading, moving, deburring, packaging, and staging materials.
- The physical ability to perform the regular demands of an active shipping, receiving, and shop-support position.
- The ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
- Reliability, initiative, and pride in completing work properly.
Previous experience with deburring, parts finishing, machining, or metalworking is considered an asset but is not required.
A valid forklift certificate and experience operating forklifts or other material-handling equipment are also considered assets.
Most importantly, you bring the right approach. When you identify a problem, you raise it. When priorities change, you adapt. When you make a commitment, your team can trust you to follow through.

- A hands-on position where your contribution is visible throughout the operation.
- A workplace built around precision, craftsmanship, and practical problem-solving.
