General Manager, Venue Operations

As the General Manager (“GM”) of Venue Operations at Prospera Place (“PP”), you are responsible for the facility's overall management, strategic planning, and operational oversight. You ensure Prospera Place's success by fostering collaboration among all teams and stakeholders. As the GM, you will work closely with the City of Kelowna, tenants, primarily the Kelowna Rockets, and other partners to establish Prospera Place as a premier facility.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership and Strategy:
- Develop and implement strategic plans to maximize the venue’s profile and profitability.
- Provide leadership to the Arena & Facilities Operations team at PP, which is responsible for the effective operation, upgrade and maintenance of PP and related equipment.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align venue operations with GSL’s goals and objectives.
- Identify opportunities to attract world-class entertainment to Kelowna and identify new, exciting ways to leverage the building and its services.
- Identify and cultivate relationships with potential sponsors and partners.
- Inspire the team to set a new standard of entertainment excellence for all events hosted at the venue.
Event Booking and Revenue Generation
- Develop and execute a comprehensive event booking strategy to maximize venue utilization and revenue.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with event promoters, agents, and organizers to attract high-profile concerts, sporting events, family shows and other entertainment.
- Identify and pursue new event opportunities that alight with the venue’s goals and audience demographics.
- Negotiate contracts and agreements with event organizers to ensure mutually beneficial terms while adhering to organizational polices and revenue targets.
- Stay informed about industry trends and competitor activity to ensure Prospera Place remains Competitive in the marketplace.
- Monitor the performance of booked events, collecting feedback and analytics to inform future booking strategies and improve operational efficiencies.
Operational Management:
- Lead all aspects of venue operations, including event management, facilities maintenance, guest services, and security.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and manage the annual operating budget, ensuring cost-effective operations and maximizing revenue streams.
- Collaborate with our ticketing partner and vendors to enhance the ticket-purchasing experience for guests.
- Collaborate with the sales team on contract negotiations and manage relationships with existing sponsors to ensure the fulfilment of agreements and continued support.
Marketing and Community Engagement:
- Develop and execute marketing strategies and initiatives to promote the venue, its events and sports games, increasing attendance and community involvement.
- Develop, foster, and nurture relationships with the City of Kelowna, local businesses, sponsors, and community organizations to enhance the venue’s and hockey team's reputation and reach.
Financial Management:
- Monitor financial performance, identifying opportunities for revenue growth and cost savings. This role has responsibility for the P&L for the entire venue.
- Negotiate contracts and agreements with vendors, contractors, and service providers.
- Prepare financial reports and presentations for the Executive Leadership Team.
Guest Experience:
- Ensure the highest customer service standards, creating a welcoming and enjoyable environment for all guests.
- Implement and oversee guest feedback mechanisms, using insights to drive continuous improvement.
Event Coordination:
- Work closely with event promoters, organizers, and stakeholders to secure events and ensure successful execution.
- Oversee event planning and logistics, ensuring seamless coordination and exceptional guest experiences.
- Monitor event performance and implement improvements based on feedback and analytics.

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in venue leadership, event operations, marketing, or a related field, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Strong understanding of marketing, sales, sponsorship, public relations, and community engagement.Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale venues, high-profile events, and sports teams.
- Strong financial acumen, with experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and contract negotiations.
This is a full-time position based at Prospera Place in Kelowna and required flexible availability to ensure effective venue operations. This role will require travelling between Kelowna and Vancouver on an as-needed basis.
