Kids Room Staff (Part Time)
NOTE: This opening is for 2-3 weekdays per week during operating hours 9:00am - 4:30pm.
BASIC FUNCTION:
- Interact with guests in a manner that is appropriate for their stage of development and model good early childhood practices for others.
- Assist in preparation and implementation of early childhood programming.
- Assist with maintenance and cleaning of Kids Room supplies and equipment.
- Attend training as directed by supervisor.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Facilitate guest experience in the Kids Room.
- Greet, engage, and assist visitors and provide excellent customer service. Answer questions as needed. Observe, monitor, and maintain safe practices.
2. Interact with guests in a manner that is appropriate for their stage of development and model good early childhood practices for others.
- Be willing to play, be silly, and learn with visitors. Demonstrate appropriate interactions with young children and their adults. Act as a model for high quality early childhood engagement in Kids Room and Maryland Science Center as a whole.
3. Assist in preparation and implementation of early childhood programming.
- Lead early childhood programming as needed according to standards for program development and current goals and guidelines. Opportunities to develop programming alongside supervisors may exist.
4. Assist with maintenance and cleaning of Kids Room supplies and equipment.
- Reset all activities at opening and closing. Observe safety and cleaning procedures established by supervisor and complete daily cleaning projects.
5. Attend training as directed by supervisor.
- Work towards a better understanding of early childhood development and age-appropriate activities through workshop attendance, department meetings, and independent reading.
6. Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports directly to the Kids Room Manager with additional supervision provided by the Early Childhood Programing and Outreach Manager.
EXPERIENCE:
- The ideal candidate has completed college coursework in early childhood education or development, elementary, or science education.
- Pursuing a career in education.
Compensation: $15.00/hour

Basic Requirements: Required to undergo background check and fingerprinting process
