Overview

Under the direction of the National Director, the Network program manager will hold a cross-functional role on the team with a focus on both membership development and policy support. Their work will help our more advanced research initiatives and developed, long-standing chapters: they will lead on projects with intensive research needs, advise our most developed chapters, manage the students who work with those chapters, and take a lead connecting our students and their projects to the broader progressive movement. Like all members of the Network team, this role will help with annual training and convenings (now digital), deliver trainings and workshops, and help develop relevant curriculum. This role requires someone flexible and who is comfortable adapting to the ongoing changes in higher education and student life, the political landscape, and the impact both will have on student organizing.

Passion and excitement about working with young people and the student movement is a must; experience in the progressive student movement, with advanced research methods, and prior student management experience is preferred. This is a non-management, unionized, role.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Manage the Roosevelt Network’s Emerging Fellows: 4-5 of our most advanced student researchers in a year-long fellowship.
  • Manage the Roosevelt Network’s Chapter Organizers: located in each of our regions, these students help our developed and long-standing chapters strategize, plan, and advance their work.
  • Help build new online advocacy and chapter resources to guide student work during COVID-19.
  • Develop and manage other programs that support students and projects, historically the Summer Fellowship and Policy Incubator programs. The specifics of these programs may need to adapt given COVID-19; this role will help build out responsive student programming and support.
  • Manage the production of the Roosevelt Network’s annual 10 Ideas journal alongside the policy associate.
  • Manage the Financialization of Higher Education research alongside the policy associate.
  • Connect the Roosevelt Network, and student projects and chapters within it, to key partners and coalitions in the progressive movement.
  • Be the team lead on advanced research, including management of student research, building and delivering trainings on research methods and data analysis, etc.
  • Use information sharing systems in place for the team (Slack, Trello, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.)

Education:

  • College degree required

Experience:

Required:

  • 3+ years of nonprofit experience.
  • Prior research and data analysis experience.
  • Connections to the progressive movement, partner organizations, and/or issue-area thought leaders.
  • Passion for student organizing, developing young progressive leaders, and comfort with managing students and their work.
  • Training, presentation, or public speaking experience.
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, with the ability to adapt and work in a fast pace environment.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with individuals— in particular students and alumni — from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in multiple policy issue areas. 
  • Personal experience with student organizing, participation in college registered student organizations, and/or participation progressive student movement spaces.
  • Willingness to travel for site visits (if/when it is safe to do so) and to staff occasional weekend and night-time student conferences, events, etc.
  • Intermediate to advanced digital and web skills — comfort using systems like Trello, Slack, Google, Zoom — and some experience with project management.
