Essential Job Duties:

  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Sets up and runs lathes, mills, and horizontal CNC machines by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
  • Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting fixtures, vise jaws, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads.
  • Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, sample work pieces, and adhering to international standards.
  • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, facing, and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5 years experience programming, setting up, operating, and performing operator level maintenance/trouble shooting on CNC Mill and Lathe equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, process sheets, and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, set up procedures, control settings, machining methods, and sequences. 
  • Ability to inspect and measure parts.
  • Identify and contribute to initiatives for continuous improvement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  •  Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent attention to detail.

Equipment, Machines And Software Used:

This position requires the regular use of CNC Machines, hand tools, power tools, gauges, etc.

Mental and Physical Requirements:

  • Moderate mental and visual attention required for performing manual work, machine operations, set-ups, inspections, and adjustments that require frequent decisions to detect and adjust for variance from proper operation.
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, grasp, talk, hear and perform repetitive motions.  The individual is frequently required to push and pull.  The individual is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and lift. 

Environmental Conditions:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that may be encountered while performing the essential functions of this position.

 While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions.  The individual is occasionally exposed to extreme heat, extreme cold, potential for physical injury, and fumes, strong odors or airborne particles.  The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.  Employees are required to wear ear, eye and foot protective safety equipment.

Noise:  There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.

Vibration:  Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.
