Calgary’s science centre is a pioneer in science entertainment and programming, with roots dating back to 1967. Home to one of Western Canada’s largest dome theatre, the Digital Immersion Gallery, VR experiences, and innovative spaces like Steven’s Lab, where interactive experiments unfold before your eyes. From the robot-dog Flint to Canada’s first robot-coa5ter, R05iE, and a 15-acre park surrounding the science of the developing brain, Spark is a hub for creative encounters.
Position Overview
Spark is currently hiring for a seasonal contract Associates for the Spark Store. The Associate, Spark Store reports directly to the Manager of Retail and Memberships. The associate, Spark Store will be a key contributor to the overall guest experience at Spark. They are accountable for ensuring that the day-to-day guest experience in the Spark Store is executed at a world-class level. They are also responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the Spark Store including selling product, merchandising, processing online orders and processing shipments. The associate, Spark Store will be an advocate for Telus Spark Science Centre and will support the organization in reaching the goals set out in the road map.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a host for all guests with high energy and enthusiasm, giving insider tips where appropriate and connecting with guests through science.
- Independent merchandising of both hard and soft goods without a planogram
- Seek out guest interactions, creating special moments to enhance the guest experience in the Spark Store. Model this behavior for other team members.
- Ensure that the presentation of the Spark Store is clean and representative of an upscale and well-maintained establishment.
- Demonstrate a passion for Spark Store products and help guests find the perfect gift or souvenir to take home.
- Keep up to date on Spark programming, initiatives, membership offerings and promotions.
- Ensure personal and team activities are aligned with business and strategic goals of Spark as a whole.
- Address customer inquiries, understand their concerns and collaborate on solutions.
- Model high performance, flexibility and kindness in a rapidly changing growth environment.
- Other duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications & Knowledge
- A minimum of 2 years experience or expertise in customer service.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in retail or sales.
- A minimum of 2 years experience in merchandising
- A passion for “nerd culture”, retail and STEM related topics.
- Willing to work a flexible work schedule that includes evenings and weekends.
- Functions well in a highly collaborative environment.
- Ability to deal with guest complaints swiftly and professionally.
- Fluency in Microsoft Office and able to use most platforms.
- A proven track record of adding value to an organization’s culture and initiatives.
- A positive attitude!
