Full-Time Manager of Visual Arts

Reports to: Senior Director of Visual Arts and Education

Direct Reports:  Visual Arts Coordinator, Visual Arts Assistant

Position Overview:

The Manager of Visual Arts is responsible for the planning, implementation and fulfillment of ArtsQuest’s Visual Arts youth and family programs, classes and camps. Coordinates visual arts programs in the community including public art projects, outreach programs and events. Assists in planning of Banana Factory exhibitions.

Business Management:

Visual Arts:

Promotion of Banana Factory and Program Development

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with community organizations; Initiate collaborations that include the Banana Factory in regional arts undertakings and collaborations.
  • Represent the Banana Factory with various local, state, regional and national arts and arts-presenters Organizations.
  • Work with Marketing Department, the Sr. Director of Communications and Visual Arts Assistant to develop marketing and public relation strategies for youth and family programs at the Banana Factory.

Gallery Direction and Management.

  • Collaborate with the Visual Arts team and local art institutions to complete long-range planning for gallery exhibitions.
  • Participate in the planning of gallery exhibitions in coordination with the Visual Arts Teams.
  • Develop exhibition content for youth and family programs.

People Management

  • Oversee Full-time Visual Arts Assistant in marketing, class registration, customer service and communication to visitors.
  • Oversee the Part-time Visual Arts Assistant in classroom management, supplies, Teaching Artists schedules and special events.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in Arts Administration, Business Management or other related field; at least 5 to 8 years’ experience managing a staff, budget, and business plan; special consideration will be given to candidates who have business management experience in an arts organization.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a fiscally responsible budget.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization, with sponsors, clients, members, both verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with community partners, businesses, schools and art educators.
  • Team player; a high level of organization, collaboration and business savvy. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a strategic team.
  • Positive attitude, sense of humor, strong work ethic and high degree of professionalism.
  • Flexibility regarding work schedule is necessary; the ability to work weekend or evening hours for classes, workshops and during special events, and the ability to travel locally and regionally to visit other cultural arts centers when necessary.
  • A valid driver’s license and a personal vehicle and the ability to travel locally and regionally as needed.
  • Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check, child abuse clearance, defensive driver and abuse prevention systems certification as well as a credit report.

Employee is frequently required to travel between our facilities, all within 1 mile of one another using reliable transportation as well as to meet with potential donors. Employee may be frequently required to travel offsite for business meetings as needed.

A salary range has been established and will be discussed with qualified candidates. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
