Baltimore Music Educator- PT
JOB SUMMARY
Living Classrooms’ Ascend through Music Program is based at the UA House on Fayette, working with the surrounding Baltimore City community and youth. Through its various initiatives, AMP provides opportunities to learn skills in music technology, musical instruments, creating original music, recording and performance with the purpose of developing self-expression and positive character/life skills.
Under the direction of the Director of Music programming, Music Educators will develop and teach programming across Living Classrooms sites that encompasses musical development, self-expression and positive character skills. Programming involves working with children, youth and adults and integrating music technology, music instruments, performances, and creating original music and projects, as well as designing creative project and performance concepts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – SUMMER EDUCATOR
· Approximately 15-20hrs/wk, Monday – Thursday, 9am-2pm, with optional additional afternoon hours
· Teach camp group sessions with a focus on learning instruments or production skills
· Plan and facilitate project- based lessons & activities that introduce and that
· Guide students in creating and preparing projects and performances for camp showcase
· Introduce concepts, skills and theory through interactive & engaging activities
· Maintenance of instruments and equipment
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS FOR ALL MUSIC EDUCATORS
· Create and facilitate sequential and engaging lessons, activities and experiences that develop skills, knowledge, creativity and confidence in music
· Plan and guide students in preparing final projects and/or performances
· Incorporate effective classroom management to maintain a structured, positive learning space
· Collaborate and Assist Director and team with program-wide performances, recordings, and projects
· Interact professionally and appropriately with students, parents, teachers, staff, community
· Participate in site staff meetings and on-going training opportunities
· Capture, create, and upload content on program’s online platforms
· Comply with all LCF/AMP policies and procedures
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
· Mastery (minimum 5 years experience) of at least one of the following: music production/songwriting, 2 contemporary instruments (guitar, piano, drum set, electric bass, vocals), film scoring, video production or
· 2 years of experience working with youth ages 6-14 in a structured setting
· Understanding and knowledge of basic music theory as it relates to making and creating music
· Preferred: comfort with creating, arranging and/or reading music
· Strong communication and organizational skills
· Ability to work in a changing environment and address the varying needs of students
· Preferred: Connection to Baltimore City community and/or local music community
· Preferred: Bachelor's Degree
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The dress code is business casual. Living Classrooms will provide each staff person with a staff shirt. Staff shirts should be worn with slacks/skirts or appropriate jeans (e.g. no holes, no writing, too revealing, etc.).
