The Building Maintenance Assistant will play a key role in ensuring the operational efficiency, safety and overall functionality of Payworks’ buildings and their systems. Reporting to the Facilities Manager, you will assist with routine inspections, preventive maintenance and minor repairs on various building systems to keep our spaces in top shape.

CREATE THE BEST ENVIRONMENT – IT’S WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Care for our buildings – You will ensure the Payworks facilities are running smoothly and common areas are well-maintained. Working alongside the Building team, you will conduct regular inspections of building systems and perform preventative maintenance tasks in a safe and efficient manner. No two days will be the same; your average day at work could include anything from shovelling snow and yard upkeep to basic painting and minor carpentry work.
  • Maintain a safe environment – Using your stellar troubleshooting skills, you will diagnose and address minor building issues such as replacing light bulbs, tightening fixtures and patching small leaks. You will also be responsible for inspecting, repairing and/or replacing any worn out tools and equipment to keep everything in optimal working condition.
  • Stay organized – Your attention to detail will shine through in meticulous record-keeping of building repairs and maintenance. You will also ensure maintenance supplies and equipment are adequately stocked by tracking inventory and coordinating orders with suppliers.
  • Look out for others – As a team player, you will promptly respond to occupant requests, complaints, and suggestions, keeping everyone informed of maintenance schedules and activities. Clear communication with the Facilities Manager will be essential if there are any issues or concerns, and you will be ready to assist with more complex mechanical issues when needed.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
  • Basic vocational training and some experience in building maintenance or related tasks is preferred, but not required. Willingness to learn and take on new challenges is essential!
  • Proficiency in using hand tools and maintenance equipment, with the ability to learn and perform basic maintenance tasks in a variety of environments and weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs, work in confined spaces, and perform physically demanding tasks including lifting, bending and standing for extended periods of time. 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively and thrive in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and unexpected issues while prioritizing key tasks.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair a variety of building systems, with a solid understanding of safety procedures and regulations.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation is ideal (the Payworks office in Winnipeg has free parking!).

The Building Maintenance Assistant supports the Winnipeg head office and works on site five (5) days a week.
