Coconut is looking for an experienced leader to drive our people, culture, and talent acquisition strategies and execute initiatives across the Human Resources function of our business. After 3 straight years of tremendous growth and completion of the Google Accelerator for Startups, we are gearing up to scale even faster and are looking to add someone to our team who can lead our People and Culture function to the next level, and position Coconut as the #1 place to work as we grow from 60 to 200 employees. 

SUMMARY

Working closely with VP of Finance & HR and Chief Executive Officer, this newly created position will lead Coconut’s People and Culture team. The role is responsible for developing and delivering all aspects of Coconut’s people strategy including: 

  • Talent acquisition
  • Cultural initiatives
  • Performance management
  • Engagement and retention
  • Learning and career development
  • Diversity and inclusion
  • Compensation and benefits
  • Workforce planning

This role also partners with other leaders across the company to help them build and develop their teams, make effective people-related decisions based on data and organizational alignment, and establish strong communication channels across our distributed workforce.

You Are Fired Up To: 

  • Work with Leadership and the People and Culture Team to build upon and execute the long-term strategy for the People and Culture function, emphasizing engagement and retention
  • Help maintain our core values and ensure that all People and Culture decisions, programs, and processes are aligned with our culture and core values
  • Lead the People and Culture team, ensuring that it operates efficiently and executes on goals
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to the People & Culture team
  • Execute company-wide performance management programs that encourage a high-performance culture and drive continuous, transparent feedback across the organization
  • Build scalable learning and development programs that help grow our team’s capabilities, support retention, and  prepare high-potential employees for management roles
  • Partner with leaders to understand and anticipate hiring and development needs, compare to the capabilities needed to deliver business objectives
  • Prepare workforce plans and organizational design that support business goals
  • Lead the Talent Acquisition team to recruit top talent for the company aligned with workforce plans and objectives, help drive employer branding initiatives that enhance Coconut’s brand awareness
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, provincial, state, and local laws and employment regulations
  • Collaborate with external legal counsel regarding employment matters and compliance with regulations
  • Prepare and maintain the budget for all People, Culture, and Talent Acquisition expenditures
  • Prepare, analyze, and report on People and Talent Acquisitions metrics that support effective planning and decision making

What you bring to the team: 

  • 10 years Human Resources and People experience
  • 5 years experience leading the People or HR function at a high-growth scale-up technology company
  • Degree in human resources, business, or a related field
  • Experience owning workforce planning from start to finish
  • Proven success delivering high-impact programs around performance management, compensation, team engagement, and retention
  • High degree of confidentiality and professional judgment
  • Proven ability to inspire, engage, and motivate teams to achieve results and success
  • Experience implementing effective talent acquisition programs and building employer branding strategies
  • Outstanding EQ, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Track record of building and enforcing company culture
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Canadian and US employment legislation, HR policies and best practices
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and supporting equitable and inclusive practices in all phases of work
  • Proven success driving change within management teams across startup organizations, aligning people strategy with values and goals
