St. James Parish Government  is hiring a Senior Center Coordinator for the Department of Human Services/Elderly Services.

This is an administrative level position with responsibility for effecting all plans of organized services in St. James Parish generally and specifically at an assigned elderly center. The Center Coordinator shall have the ability to direct and facilitate the provisions of services in accordance with Federal, state, and parish laws, regulations, and policies. This position is classified as essential during declared emergencies or natural disasters and exempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Â·         Attend staff meetings, council meetings, training, and conferences as required

·         Perform special and related duties or assignments as requested

·         Establish and maintain an accurate filing system

·         Assist as necessary in the preparation of financial records and reports, programmatic records and reports, budgets, and narratives

·         Be directly involved with the delivery of services to the elderly as needed

·         Supervise staff and volunteer workers

·         Provide information on the elderly

·         Implement a parish-wide network of services for the elderly in compliance with the Area Plan

·         Supervise all center activities

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a high school diploma. Experience and or education related to human services or elderly services preferred. Some managerial experience is necessary as well as the ability to relate to people in need. Must have a valid La. Class “D†driver’s license or ability to obtain one.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 Proficiency and comfort using Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Etc.)

  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal skills
  • High level of self-motivation and initiative
  • Ability to assess the effectiveness of programs/services and recommends improvements

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close-distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
