Assistant Assessor
Assistant Assessor- Full-time, 35 hours per week
The Town of Cohasset is seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable assistant assessor to support the administration of the town’s property assessment operations. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the fair and equitable valuation of property, assist with compliance and reporting requirements, and provide professional service to residents and stakeholders while supporting the financial integrity of the community.
Position Overview
Reporting to the director of assessing, the assistant assessor supports the director of assessing in performing highly responsible and complex duties requiring considerable judgment in establishing valuations of real and personal property. In the absence of the director, the assistant assessor attends and directs the board of assessors’ meetings.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain Assessment Records & Tax Maps
• Conduct Property Valuations & Inspection
• Support Appeals & Compliance Processes
• Provide Public Service & Technical Guidance
• Prepare Tax Commitments & Financial Documentation
Minimum Qualifications: Must have a minimum of five years of experience in the valuation of property for tax purposes or an equivalent combination of education and municipal experience. Must hold, or be able to obtain, a certificate in municipal assessing with the designation of Massachusetts Accredited Assessor (MAA) issued by the Massachusetts Association of Assessing Officers (MAAO).
Preferred Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree is preferred. Familiarity with Customized Data Services and SoftRight municipal software is also desirable.
Compensation & Benefits:
This is a full-time, benefited position classified as Grade M1 ( $67,067- $80,152 ). The Town of Cohasset offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
